unsure about a secondary weapon for a Support/Healer Templar.

i'm new to the game. i'm sitting at level 16, right now, and slowly going through the game, enjoying it and the like.

i just unlocked my secondary bar and... i have absolutely no idea what other weapon to use. my main hand is a Restoration Staff. i've been trying to look through the other various options, but, nothing seems to stand out. i'm currently using 1H/Shield because of aesthetics, but other than that... i have no idea what else to use.

anyone have any thoughts on all the other possibilities?

Train up both Dual Wield and Destruction Staff.

You'll be switching off on the two for your 2nd bar. Dual Wield gives spell damage, while Destruction Staff gives access to its spells.

Dual Wield is a common option. You may want to level destruction staff as well, though.

I personally like destro staff so you can run Elemental drain, but many run dual wield for the higher spell damage for healing/off dps. I would also train up 1hs if you have any interest in tanking or heal/tanking later on.

I would prioritize it like this: destro, dual wield, 1HS.
    PC NA AD
Gamma Fyr: Dunmer Sorcerer Stamina DPS (the Missing Sister...props to those who get the reference)
Samekh Fyr: Dunmer Nightblade Magicka DPS
Claire Le'Rouge: Breton Templar Heal/Tank (the Resplendent Bastion)
Augustus Constantine: Imperial Nightblade PvP (Blackwater Bandit)
    Shadow-of-Sundered-Star: Altmer Dragonknight Lowbie

If you are healer templar based on magicka: definitely go with Destruction Staff (Lightning Staff).
    1. you get strong "aoe" damage with gaining magicka just from heavy attacks - once you unlock Tri-Focus passive rank 2 (•Fully charged heavy shock attacks damage nearby enemies for 100% of the damage done.)
    2. you will get a huge magicka refund when killing enemy from your destro Staff attacks/abilities when you unlock Desctruction Expert passive (I think 3600 magicka refund per kill on rank 2).
    3. magicka based skills from destro Staff are very powerful and esthetic so you will like it :)

My advice, leave 1H/Shield for your DK or other stamina-based alt, once you start it :).

Destro if you want to support in PvE to the best of your ability. 1h/S of you want to support in PvP for the survivability, a dead healer can't heal very well ya know!! Dual wield will give you slightly bigger heals, but the heals will be far more expensive and strain resources compared to using your resto staff. Only go dual wield if you want to DPS are have easy access to major expedition!

As a templar, you'll have a lot of heals available to your from your class. I find myself relying less and less on my restoration staff for healing. The only heal I use is healing ward. The healing staff passives are nice though, and I can imagine them being more essential in hardcore end-game trials and dungeons.

My main bar is dual wield, which has a passive that increases damage if you use swords, which also makes your heals stronger.

**I've been getting so little utility from my resto staff these days, I've been thinking about using bow as my backbar. There's a passive that grants you increased mobility, something magplar lacks. Sorta sad though that I would use two weapons that I would not learn any of the skills of, just using them for their passives.

Support skills: repentance (templar skill) - gives allies stam, luminous shards (templar skill) - gives allies stam, war horn (pvp skill line) - gives allies increased max resources, and combustion (undaunted skill line) - gives allies magicka. You can possibly throw in purifying ritual (templar skill) if you consider allies being able to purify themselves as a utility/support function.
