Starting to regret text chat already. In PvP I was hoping that more communication would equal better teamwork. In reality it's just highlighted how rude and toxic it is.

This evening we were defending a keep. We were doing well but not great. I noticed the opposing team never seemed to dwindle so suggested they may have a forward camp. <no response>. Meanwhile someone is talking about needing help at a keep we didn't even own nor was it under attack. As nobody replied I asked him where he was and what was needed. <no response>. Everyone else is talking to each other about trying to annoy the other team, just not talking to me.
I run from my keep to the one under attack and message that I would scout for a forward camp. Unsurprisingly I found one, I then mention I would stealth burn it, which I struggled with, so I asked for one or two people to help. <no response>. I ended up doing it alone but I did it! The keep was then able to be saved at the last minute. I asked if anybody could actually read my messages but no one replied. But they were talking to each other about how they hate the other team.

Also, people kept saying things but not saying where they were. So with many people spilt up it was hard to find out.

Not going to lie. I feel disheartened

I'm surprised that anyone thought it would be a good idea. I could never see what value it would bring over being in a group, or a good guild and using voice chat. I'm so glad its off by default, it's staying that way for me.

Sorry it's a let down for you tho, I do get people wanted it, but I could only see problems with it / no need.

I think text chat is more useful for pve but im probaly not gonna use it much for pvp. Only time i would use it is to tell the imbeciles to get off the flag to prevent a tower farm.

Sounds a lot like PvP zone on PC - except that there it's mostly not used because pretty much no one pays attention. Or was this your guild's chat? If so, were you talking on the right "channel" (/g1, /g2, etc...)?

I agree, it's sad. I've been wanting to join a decent pvp orientated guild for xbox but have struck out with no luck.

I also assume it's because I chose DC (extremely underpopulated compared to AD/EP)

DC on xbox NA seems unorganized in every campaign.

Dc pvp trademark: siege 3/4 sides to every keep for no reason other than ignorance.

It's like any other chat box in any other mmorpg, some days are good and some are bad.
And considering its only just been released for a mmorpg that has been out for just over a year, I'm not surprised.
Personally though it's been great so far, so much better.
if you wanna see toxic chat just play WOW for a day (and that's over a decade old)

Nah it was general zone. Everyone could see it. I've learnt my lesson though. Unless I can find people on here to start a guild with I may even quit PvP entirely tbh.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I have no urge to play anymore since I mostly only did PvP. People just either don't read the text in the first place or the ignore it completely even when they do see it. The amount of sheer stupidity that sometimes comes up because of this is astounding.

I really don't see the benefit of text chat other than for trading goods. If I'm the GM of a prominent trading guild, I'm pretty worried about how text chat will effect the economy right now.

Yeah you definately aren't alone Cazzy, and it's even worse when I take a group of my guildies into PvP for their first time, but then we aren't able to find out where ANY other groups are going or what anyone is doing unless one of the keeps is flagged, simply because no one could take the precious 4 seconds to reply to us in zone chat, it really isn't a good first impression of PvP for my guildies when crap like that happens.

Yh I hear you on that.
I still see horrendous talk on the PC chat, and PVP is much worse.
But when the chat box in PVP is good the gameplay is really, really good.

I don't suppose you have joined any of the playstation ESO communities?? Not the trade ones, but the guild ones and such. It's so often just a bunch of immature lads trying to tell other players how good they are and how bad others are. Text chat was always going to be full of immature people also. But its like when cartmen was on chat roulette, "This is life kyle, if you wanna find some friends your gonna have to wade through all the *** first!!"

Everyone uses teamspeak on pc. I hate it since my voice barely works due to a medical condition, but it's mandatory in every group. You also tend to learn WAY TOO MUCH information about people you don't even really know.

On Xbox you have to go to options and turn it on, I left mine on for about 30seconds....off was better.

Welcome to life on PC. It is always like this. Sorry it was bad for you. I usually just stay in TS with a lazy eye toward chat every so often.

Ah yeah I saw your last message in the chat.

I found a few issues with the text chat though, mainly you have to stop exactly what you're doing in order to open the panel and type but also relevant PvP chat gets missed due to guild discussions.

It did get more coordinated though after I saw your message so maybe it's just teething problems.

Not a lot of players have a keyboard at hand, but I think that console text will encourage some to buy one.

I think we'll see more people use console chat once a. they learn how to use it, b. get the proper equipment, and c. it becomes normalized for certain types of communications.

And if I had never played an mmorpg before it would confuse the hell out of me (like using different channels etc)

I think it is great for pvp...
Tonight i was at a keep that blues were starting to siege, i typed in /zone "blues attacking xxxx keep" and not to much longer yellows showed up to defend. Had the shout out not been made the the blues more than likely would have had the keep under attack before any defenders could have shown up!

I've already looked into it. Smart glass isn't as efficient as I hoped. I just wish that with adding a keyboard, we may be able to add a mouse icon and use a mouse. That's a lot to ask and make happen and 3 different devices.

Just a good for thought: maybe just maybe....since text chat is off by default that not many players have caught on in turning it on - making it improbable for someone to see your messages at that specific time? . Possible

Alls I do is pvp. I love it! I have a few great guilds I run with and honesty, I don't even know if I will turn on my chat. Things happen so quickly in Cyrodiil that I can't imagine stopping to read chats. We prefer voice communication.

Text chat is a huge plus.

To the OP it's also like day one and everyone on console had played without it for over year. Unless you've been on the forums or looked it up you didn't even realize it was coming.

As far as the general toxicity level of PVP, no comment. ok one comment.....

The general toxicity level of PVP is only equaled or suppassed by the general toxicity level of endgame PVE players.
