Morrowind was the better story by far. It also had better general gameplay mechanics. The spell crafting system let you completely break the game but it was awesome and it really felt epic. I remember I had some way to permanently stun/freeze enemies. I decorated my homes with frozen dremora in their death throes before jumping over the red mountain in a single leap. Good thing I had a levitation amulet to equip just before landing.

Haha, I never tried this combi - extreme jumping and then landing with a levitation ring or amulet - I used levitation a lot to get around more quickly - even the "flight" was more slow motion than anything else - but it helped.

I never got far in Morrowind because I played it after oblivion and Skyrim, so I didn't like the fact there were no quest markers.

I liked a lot of the customisability and story lines of oblivion, but the skill training and my need for min/maxing made Skyrim more enjoyable from a leveling standpoint

Oblivion was pretty good dumb fun. Though I think, honestly, Skyrim managed to smooth out that element further. It's kinda distilled in Fallout 4, as this sublime murder things, and shake out their pockets for loose change action game.

Morrowind was probably the last time Bethesda Game Studio made a real RPG, though.

that there were no quest markers was one of the best things with it - you actually had to think about what the quest is about and get clues from other NPCs by talking to them about different topics - you had to explore - I mean really explore, not just walk to the next quest marker.

There is something about Oblivion that I can't exactly put my finger on... but the stories and the people with the "real" lives hooked me for ages. I could just log into the game and spend hours following people around and learning about their secrets. Skyrim seemed to have scaled that back a bit for other things.

Unfortunately I also tried Morrowind after Oblivion like @Psyonico, and so I feel that pain.

100% morrowind. Everything about the game was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed not having the quest markers, you definitely had to pay attention to the details the NPCs gave, and always refer to your journal. I find with games that have the quest marker I don't pay as much attention to the story, it's more just walking from point A to B, kill stuff -> return to quest giver - no real exploration or thinking necessary. I also enjoyed the lack of readily available fast travel. Other than the silt strikers and mark/recall.

haha, yes, i remember the trader in Charrol, I needed something desperately but the shop owner went out into the garden and did some archery training and did not bother to sell me anything before she had finished her archery training - this was the radiant system in Oblivion - funny at times.

    Morrowind
I feel morrowind had the best reward for exploration such as artifacts scattered within dungeons and the rarity of daedric and overall encouragement to explore. Oblivion to me had the best soundtrack and it is still pretty memorable. Skyrim was good, but the guild quests felt lackluster compared to the ones in oblivion.

To me the flaws in morrowind was just the combat was frustrating and the hit/miss system when you clearly lunged your sword through it but it was fun to build your character with the combat system and eventually achieve near god hood.

Oblivions flaws were that the enemies leveled with you and no sense of progression and no real fear of encountering high lvled enemies. immersion was ruined when at a lvl bandits would appear in full daedric or glass armor.

Skyrim While I enjoyed the first playthrough, I cant see myself playing multiple playthroughs as it feels dull afterwards even with the beautiful world in front of you. exploration was killed for me with these similar dungeons all containing lackluster rewards aside from the occasional shout unlock, which hardly any unique weapons and armor could be expected and daedric artifacts would be made trivial because you could make better ones with a high lvl blacksmithing which killed the sense of collecting anything for me

i didn't like oblivion too much because of the char development. playing the way you liked could make you weaker for your long-term goal. due to the difficulty slider and scaling, this wasn't a problem for completing the game and palying the story, but a big part of why i like RPGs was missing for me.

skyrim was pretty good, but I didn't really like the exploration. I liked the main story, i loved the guild questlines. everything else had too little reward + reason for me to do. Alchemy + boosts + crafting boosts + crafting, however, was again a sag thing. I read about it, tried it, and effectively ruined the difficulty for me.

breaking morrowind with spellcrafting was a bit stupid, but i LOVED it at the time.

Tbh, I have to say that I really like ESO the most. I prefer the combat, the controls, etc. Most importantly, though, I really enjoy the typical competetive side of an MMO

Play a totally different style - like if you were a warrior type, go for illusion/conjuration magic - not destruction, that is too near to what your gameplay was like before - do something totally different like that.

And you are right with the gear to find - a combi of alchemy, enchanting and blacksmithing made you far better gear than you could find - but then again, nothing is forcing you to do it like that.

I never really took 100% advantage of the Spell Crafting in Morrowind. I still play Morrowind, every day after Pledges, and this time through I'm playing as a Mage and using the tools afforded to me.

    Morrowind
It's a tough one for me between Morrowind and Oblivion, since Oblivion was the first one I really got into. However, Morrowind had a magic to it that no other TES game has matched since.

I spent a lot of time in Skyrim too, and was fascinated at first, but when I look back, I don't think all that fondly of it. It was oversimplified and artificially difficult rather than mechanically difficult (when it was difficult at all). Also just a bunch of quests killing Draugr. Seriously, that is all you do the entire game: kill bandits and Draugr in random tombs for bad random loot. I missed the ability to go way beyond my level in Morrowind to hunt down artifacts that were also way beyond my level.

    Morrowind
Overall, Morrowind had the greatest depth and also the most inferior combat system, which is to be expected given its age. It was beautifully crafted with wonderful music however. ESO could take a queue from Morrowind when it comes to music, I really dislike the jarring sound that greets with obvious MMO generic music upon arrival to Cyrodiil - and I think of myself as a pvp-phile. I also shut the music off in Cyrodiil.

I also feel like Skyrim had the best combat, though the lack of spellcrafting from Oblivion/Morrowind are a definite minus for those who played those previous games. Skyrim had a very epic story but was also on the rails. I loved the game but also felt like I had the least control over my character's story in Skyrim.

Skywind is going to be the best game in my view. Morrowind story with Skyrim combat. It would have to be the best of the 3. I really wish Skywind would come out.

I don't think any of the games have met the depth and atmosphere of Morrowind. It was so oppressive, with few moments when you could relax... usually worried that a cliffracer was lurking behind you.

There was always the chance that you'd bump into something you really didn't want to meet up close, like a Golden Saint that your newbie character had no chance of defeating... but maybe worth a try because they carry glass gear!

And the story imbued the whole of the game. Even a Mage's Guild quest when you're sent off to find a book about why the dwarven race disappeared...

In comparison, Oblivion was a walk in a park, Skyrim was a walk in a park in winter.

There should be 3 new options:

    d) ESO

    e) All of them (including ESO)

    f) None of them

I would have chosen e) since I like and dislike equally each game and still they are all my favorites.
