Patcher/Launcher continuously trying to update

It won't stop downloading/applying/verifying/downloading again/repeating the process.

It just won't update at all. I try running eso.exe directly and it's still on the previous game version (2.5.5)

My internet sucks (both in speed and a crap monthly data cap), I can't keep downloading 3 gigs here, 4 gigs there, over and over again.

I am running the Launcher as Administrator. I've always always have had patcher problems (lots of Error 206 with ever. single. damn. patch.),
before I got the 206 error (when not directly telling the launcher to run as admin, even though I have the files ALL set to run as administrator in their settings),
now it just keeps downloading more and more and more. I can't leave it on auto overnight because sometimes it decides to try downloading the entire @#$%ing game again.

Getting ready to drop my 3 month sub over this BS.
What I lack in gameplaying ability I make up for in smack talk.

I have this error a lot too. A couple of things:

When you KNOW there's a big patch, let it do its patch thing, download, apply, etc. But if you're fairly certain your game is *** fine (I understand your frustration, because I have hooooooooooooooooooorribly poopy internet too, believe me the constant attempts to update is infuriating)

Anyway if you're sure your install is fine, try one of these:

When it attempts to needlessly update, close the patcher and open it again. Try this several times. Most likely the play button will be clickable.

If this doesn't work, and again you're sure your install is fine and up to date, navigate to your game install directory. Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client. Launch eso.exe or eso64.exe manually from here, depending on whether you use the 32 or 64 bit client normally. Make sure you know which it is. Provided your install is fine and your game up to date, the game should run normally now.

I had to do this with the Hist patch for the first time. Before, I only ever had to just close/re-open the launcher and it was fine. With Hist, no matter what I did it wanted to download more. So when I was sure that I downloaded any Hist patch files and it was moving on to try and download some other needless thing, I closed the patcher and launched eso64.exe. Eventually, after the next small maintenance patch, I no longer had to do this and was able to use the laucher as normal again.

As a note, I determine if I'm downloading Dumb Patch versus Normal Patch by filesize. This makes me very, very grateful that ZOS lists approximated patch size with every patch, which most games do not. Otherwise my ways of dealing with the unreliable patcher and my super slow internet would be significantly less reliable.
