Noob question about mementos

I never used them really, I tried it few times, I saw that I got some graphical effect during the time it lasted, but is there some other point to them? Do they give some buffs when active?

They dont apply buffs. Theres one that reduces youre detection level while active but really other than that they are pretty much just fluff.
Thankfully they dont take up inventory space any more and have their own tab under collections.

I think there's one that gives a small damage bonus for a few seconds, but otherwise they're purely cosmetic.

There's also one people used to use in PVP as a sort of beacon, showing where the zerg needs to go, because it created a huge vertical beam of light that's easy to spot, but as far as I'm aware, mementos no longer work in Cyrodiil.

TL;DR: no, they're functionally useless, but they're there to collect if you want them.

Almalexia's Lantern actually has practical use, but the rest are for the sake of amusement.

Finvir's Trinket. Very useful in PvE when you are running with a group through delves and someone needs to highlight a chest location.
