Why can't I use the Blade of Woe, are the targets too high level?

I'm trying to sneak up behind NPCs in bandit camps, delves, etc. and I'm not getting the option to assassinate them...

I'm level 29 and they're level 30, are they too high or is this a bug?

I do have the Dark Brotherhood skill line and access to the the Blade of Woe, I'm just not being prompted to use it.

Another problem could be sight... as in, you get spotted before you are prompted. Heck, there are times I am prompted, and then spotted, and it kicks me out of the BoW animation. Another could be you're trying to use it on a race that isn't supported by the BoW. Third could be that you're not crouching, and fourth, could be that they're too high of a level. Because BoW is an instant kill, it won't work if the enemies are too high of level above you.

Two reasons here. One you're not setting yourself up directly behind the target, so you don't get the prompt. Second reason ,and the most likely cause, the last patch broke the blade of woe. Many people have reported that the blade of woe is broken or they're not getting xp from using it. When this will get fixed, who knows, maybe next week.

Working fine for me. Not sure about the xp though but that is minor detail.
It works on humans, elves and humanoid daedra. However for some reason it doesn't work on goblins.

I have noticed it has been glitching out a few times since update 11. Can't say I'm surprised, what with Zenimax's world renown regression testing.
