Veteran Hel Ra Citadel- my thoughts after my first clear.

First off, grats to Malacath's Trousers for being the 2nd guild on the NA server to clear vet Hel Ra.

Shameless guild promotion aside, I have to say I really feel like ZOS hit the mark with the revamp to Hel Ra Citadel. The trial is going to be a good "intro to vet mode" for many guilds. There was a nice degree of challenge without being too crazy.

1st boss- A good intro to the trial. He made for a nice warmup. Boss had enough health to be a good practice boss for rotations, and the whirlwind attack below 30% health was sufficiently punishing if you didn't pay attention.

2nd boss (split)- I went with the group up top, so I can't speak to how the bottom boss was, other than that it was apparently much easier, as our bottom group 1-shot it, while top group took a few attempts. Top boss was definitely a bit of a challenge. Nearly constant AOE's being dropped that hit quite hard, along with channels that needed to be interrupted made situational awareness vital. Mistakes and deaths will make the fight last MUCH longer, but there are brief intervals where it is possible to recover from them. This was a really good fight imo, and the kind of fight I'd like to see more of- a fight focused on mechanics and positioning rather than a pure dps race.

Warrior- There were a couple of surprises in this fight if you were used to pre-patch hel ra. First off, he hits MUCH harder. The channeled flurry WILL take down a tank through block if they just stand there and eat it. A couple times healers were able to keep the tank alive through a full channel, but by the end we were finding that it was much safer to dodge roll to mitigate some of the damage. We did hit the soft enrage timer where all the statues come to life at once, but the offtank was able to taunt enough of them to prevent a wipe while the DPS pushed the boss to his 2nd phase. The storm attack is now an AOE similar to shield phase on the 1st boss in Maw, so you can't stack too tight without the damage overlapping. The fight requires good positioning and coordination with the group- again, a mechanics fight as opposed to a dps race.

All in all, we had a great time on our first clear of the place. The content as a whole was truly enjoyable, and the difficulty level was perfect for what it should be- an intro trial. I feel like it does something to fill the MASSIVE difficulty gap between the preexisting normal and vet modes in Maw and Sanctum, which is something the game really needed.
