$20+ for a name change. Im out

I think this is the last straw. I am sure I will get a lot of people asking for my stuff, etc. I have been a defender of this game for the longest times. I have defended as much as I can. But 2500 Crowns is about $20. I have never, in my life, in any game, seen prices that high for a name change. That is double the cost of what it usually is ($10).

The greed is getting worse and worse. It really makes me not want to play.

$20 to change your name. This is unprecedented in MMOs.

I'm assuming they keep pushing prices up in an attempt to soak more of the 'free' crowns from the subscribers so they have to buy more. They could use costumes to do it, but they can't seem to make good ones.

They're not charging $20 for a name change.

They're charging 2500 crowns for a name that absolutely has to be changed.

If name changes were cheap, people would change them on every holiday and every time they broke up with their SO.
It would get a bit silly.

By making them more than an impulse buy, ZOS is offering the service if you absolutely must change your name but making you think twice before actually doing it. I think that's pretty responsible of them.

So sometimes when they price things real high, it is because they are a business and have to make money. But sometimes when they price things high, it is to keep us from buying things. This is why I love the interwebs.

Exactly. In addition one has to understand that new players coming in who create characters will have one hell of a time trying to find a name if people are name changing all the time. "Friskee Bob is available, player being created....wait, wait a minute...nope looks like it's taken. Please choose another name."

I can understand not wanting to pay a certain amount for some feature like this. But why does it make someone want to quit the game?

There are lots of crazy expensive items in the crown store that I have no interest in personally. This was one of the few items that did seem interesting. I planned to buy character name change, and I don't want to pay that much, so I'm probably not changing the name. I imagine I'll still enjoy the game just fine with the old name.

Do you have a character with a name you hate so much that you can't continue playing without changing it?

And what's wrong with it being an impulse buy? I suspect the overall revenue from name changes and race changes would be through the roof if they were in the range of 500-1000 crowns. Lots of people would buy them frequently due to high elasticity of demand for this kind of item.

It is far too high, and honestly I'm surprised they made it that expensive, but not because I didn't expect a desperate cash grab. It's very easy to reroll characters now, if I'm faced with the choice between paying for it or grinding, grinding a new character wins every time. Poor business decision in terms of customer choice- the far more efficient choice is to reroll, in normal businesses it's the other way around.

At least for you the issue is only name change. Think of it like this. You haven't got to/had to change your name before and you have been playing just fine.

It is unprecedented i have play other F2P and honest some of price there is unprecedented im wonder how many char do need to change name on $20 is that much if you go to change 1 char name but if you have 8 char that need name change then you are in problem also i think the point of prize is so that people think i few time before the change name and when do change the really think hard of good name.

You do know harassment would be tied to the account and not the character right? Changing a character's name would have no effect on that case scenario.

If you can make $20 in 4 hours, then each hour of your time is worth $5.

If you spend two weeks to level a char to max, playing 4 hours a day, then it will cost you 7*4=28 hours of your time, or 28*5= $140.

Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

All of these tokens should have a high cost associated with them! It deters constant FOTM impulse changes.

Not everybody just mashes the "randomize all" button, so they can just jump into the game a few minutes faster! If a person does/did that. . . well there should be a penalty cost.

*foreheads random key* . . ."Oh hey look, a crazy looking orc mage... and fluffbunny287 is a pretty cool name too! Sweet!
    Time to level 'em up!!!"

    Really???

If the toon and/or the name were that bad that it was unplayable to a person... why not re-roll immediately? Why level it?

If people spent any time at all in the character creator, there'd be very little need of these tokens! (Although I'm not saying they are completely without use, as there will always be the out-lying cases. But again.. the cost should be high for this service).

But to just change your name? C'mon... how much time would it have taken to just think of one as your creating your toon? And as mentioned above... Everyone's been playing just fine with their "chosen" names this whole time!

Hasn't hindered their gameplay so far and wont continue to if they choose to not buy a token and keep playing as is.

As an aside: From someone coming from the old paper D&D days, I remember we would spend so much time back then creating our characters (and usually had to make a stack of different ones to be honest, as when/if that toon bit it, the DM took it and shredded it... they were gone!). We then pulled another from our stack and waited to be re-introduced to the group. Spending that time putting so much thought into the characters up-front, made us feel more connected with the char and more invested in how you were going to grow them, etc. (Something lost if a person can just keep buying their way through the process.)

This whole "random" button or just thoughtlessly blowing through the creation process as quick as possible... for reasons, has taken some of that away (as well as opened the door for things like these tokens) imo.

    Anyway.

Pro grinders or seasoned grinders depending on how the individual wishes to be referred to as can grind a new char to lvl 50 in less than 8 hours, so that's $10 ( by that I mean all the skills they need, fighters guild too ect. ) not just to 50.

So case in point for some of us it's more profitable to just grind but for the majority of people who have achievements, titles, perhaps even a ring of Mara on their char. This is a good thing
