I have a thought but it may be unpopular or impossible

What do you think about being able to pick and choose passive and racial abilities from each class when creating your character rather than being locked in to (ex: Nord)

You could be a Nord but choose passives from the other races :) It's just my opinion. I don't really pay attention to the lore

If any class can have any racials, what would be the point of them?
I personally like to have races with different strenghts, they just need to be balanced a bit. (e.g. + magic damage for Bretons, + ranged damage for Bosmer, chance to proc some extra bleed damage for Nord)

I thought it would be another way to add customization. Unfortunately, somoene beat me to it with a poll lol

It is very much lore-breaking :/

With that said, you could always pick the correct racials of your race rather than others. It would make balancing perfect and very easy/quick. You can purposely fit lore 100%. Player choice!

Also, I could play any race without fearing that a Nord Magicka Sorcerer is severely disadvantaged to an Altmer Magicka Sorcerer.

"Play how you want to play" doesn't go so far at all in terms of viability when it comes to race.

    I'd love this change :)

Thanks for that! I sometimes miss the simpler ideas and ways of doing things

So you can be an orc and pick 10% max stam, 21% stam recovery, and battle rush passive from red guard? No thanks, I don't feel like having balance *** it even more in PvP

Let each race get two racial passives that are default and one that you can pick. This matches the lore where you had rare individuals that defied their genetic predispositions (eg, Mage nords)

    Better than that: perks

perk 1- Weapon choice (extra xp or dmg) ie: dunmer can choose between DW or flame staff. Bretons between frost staff and S/B. Argonian between bow (dw) and resto, cats between DW and lightning, altmer between lightning and 2H, etc. Thus, each faction can master at least 3 stam based wpns, and 3 staves.

perk 2 magicka/stam. Dunmer and altmer can have 8% more magicka or stam, bretons and bosme can have extra magicka/stamina regen, redguard can keep their adrenaline rush but it can provide a bonus to stam or magica

perk 3 mitigation. Dunmer can have extra spell/physical res, argonians can choose between max health or extra health regen/healing received, imperials can choose between red diamond or something like constitution (but while blocking), orcs can choose between block cost reduction/mitigation

Perk 4 would be more for flavor. Dunmer can have their current extra flame dmg or stronger invocations (including shields), argonian could have extra poison dmg/resist or extra disease dmg, cats extra poison dmg or extra phys dmg, nords can have extra ice or physical dmg, altmer can choose between extra elemental dmg or stronger poisons

But, you know, this is a ZoS game...

Lets not give people more option to min/max their characters. There are already a ton of people picking certain races just for the passives

    It's easily balanced.

They can even make it so you can only pick one passive from each of three pools of passives. Literally anyone with decent knowledge of ESO's PvP and PvE could perfectly balance racial passives in a single day if a system like this was used.

*** no, what's the point in races otherwise?

If that was the case everyone would choose the Orc passive that gives 6% health and stamina, and the Dunmer passive that gives 6% stamina and Magicka.

I now have 12% stamina, 6% health and 6%magicka and still have a passive left to choose?

I think this is a fantastic idea. I chose a Nord as my main character, purely based on looks. EOS makes NO EFFORT to explain how racial choice affects endgame to beginning players. They do not list the character traits in the character creator. They do not explain the dichotomy between stamina and magicka builds that, maybe not intentionally, exists in the game. Many people put their attributes into either all stamina or all magicka and do so for sound reasons. If you don't have the 6%-10% racial passive that boosts your stamina / magicka stat to go with that, you are nerfed in endgame. Add to that a racial passive like the Redguards stamina return on melee attacks, for example. This equates to something like 600 extra stam regen in melee fights. That is HUGE. Where do you find that otherwise? By switching food to drinks? Maybe. By switching mundus stone? Not even. By using no less than 3 jewelry enchants? By choosing such options as a Nord you inevitably nerf your damage, compared to a Redguard.

As a result of my racial choice I am stuck with a character that is, maybe, good for tanking, but not much else. That would be fine if tanking was viable throughout the game. It is not. Everyone knows this. When it comes to the highest-end content, such as vMA, it is a DPS race. Speed is everything and tanking won't help you, because you'll be overwhelmed (not to mention you'll never get a good score, because that's based on speed). As a primarily solo player, I feel much the same holds for PvP. DPS rules!

With all that said, I love my Nord. I grew up with her. I get very attached to how my characters look. I know race change is coming, but I have no inclination of using it.

Nor am I inclined to grind another character to level 50. I know this has become easier with training gear, no vet ranks, etc., but it is still an awful grind when you consider not only the levelling, but also fetching a reasonable amount of skyshards, getting the Undaunted passives, alliance skills, Mage's guild skills and so on.

The alternative I'm looking for is to get the full set of passives from another race, a Redguard's for example, in exchange for all the Nord passives, but I want to keep my looks. That would be great!

By the way, yes, I know the Nord passives will be improved within a week, with the next patch. From what I can see that still doesn't cut it for top DPS though. It also pushes Nords into the stamina direction, so it does nothing for people who currently run Nord Magicka builds.
