SpeedRunning Meets ESO

Is it possible to do a speedrun of a game like ESO? I don't mean like a simple race to Level 50, although I may attempt that too in hopes of setting a record. But, I mean in completing the game from Coldharbour to the final quest given in Reaper's March (AD faction quest-wise). And going for a 100% clear. Meaning all: Dolmens, dungeons, public dungeons, quests, and side quests.

By the way, I'm not planning on doing this until the game gets in better shape and has less disconnects and load screens. I also need to see if something like a speedrun is even possible on a game like ESO. Lol.

Not possible since 100% includes way too much dolman boss rng as well as getting emperor and level 50 in pvp, so 8m ap
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Very true. I didn't consider that. Lol. A 100% couldn't be possible. Hm... I wonder if an 80% is possible then.
    and fishing?

Yeeeeah, that'd have to be another thing not included due to the longevity of Master Angler being acquired.

If it was only 8m AP there would be a lot more Grand Overlords than there is currently. It's over 64m AP.

The closest I have seen any aspect of this game come to speed running is vMA and the 12-player trials. Considering that the trials are for 12 players, they aren't necessarily good for the type of speed running that you talk about, but vMA fits what I think you are talking about pretty well.

What is tough about speed running for this game, in my opinion, is that the categories would have to be chosen. Is trading allowed? Is grouping allowed? Is joining a guild allowed? Is teleportation to players allowed? Is breaking parts of the game allowed? The list goes on.

It takes 3-4 hours to 100% complete each zone while speedquesting. So a speedrun of the whole game would take 16 * 3.5 = 56 hours. If you just wanted to do a single faction, I could see it taking 20 hours.

The only real valid way to do a Speed Run is to focus only on the Main Quests for each zone (those that would be listed in Caldwell's Almanac), then the Triumvirate Meeting, then Coldharbor (limit to the two factions FG and MG) then the Final Battle.

This removes any waiting for Boss spawns for Delves which can affect regular quests as well. It can also eliminate the time needed to wait for a Dolmen to spawn if it was taken down soon before you get there, same with World Bosses.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Boss spawns isn't such a big issue in my opinion. Some games have extreme amounts of RNG so such boss spawning mechanics that exist in ESO could easily be considered RNG and still be consistent with speed running as we conceive of it today.

Also, if the run is very long, then segmented runs could suffice as speed running for this game.

Does the "Final Battle" require that Harborage quests have been done? If so, and given that those quests can only happen at specific levels (every 5 levels between 5 and 45?), a speedrun then require you to level to 45.

Boss spawns isn't such a big issue in my opinion.

For playing the game, no it is not an issue.

It is a variable that is out of control of the player, that is why it should not be part of a Speed Run. If the World and Delve Bosses could be guaranteed to be there, that is one thing. But I have puttered around for 10 to 15 minutes waiting for a World Boss, and some Public Dungeon Bosses to spawn. Their Spawns are not on a timer per say, but can be based on how many other world bosses are up. I have also waited, not as long, but up to 5 to 10 minutes for Delve Bosses to spawn. There would no other way to compare runs between players due to this variability. This can cumulatively add an hour to one player's speed run with another player not having to wait.

The Zone Main Quests are for the most part Instanced or at least quest objective mobs are not shared. So, this would be a consistent environment with which to compare speed runs.

Otherwise it would like conducting an auto race where the quickest time wins, but each racer gets a different track layout to run.

Now, the other thing that needs to be established is, Champion Points or Not?

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

ESO already has speedruns. This wont be on AGDQ because it's a mmo.

Depends on the type of speed run you are going for. 100% would be things like you mentioned above, you could also run Any% speedrun to get around the RNG.

For the category you can do something like; Daggerfall Main Quest Line, no CP, NB, and only the gear you find you use. This way you can avoid doing Coldharbour main quest and just count the final quest in Bangkorai.

You'd have to break down the run based off of classes too-- since each class can clear quests and other objectives at different speeds depending on their levels and what faction you are using! So if this is something you are interested in doing, I would highly recommend sitting down and producing a route with notes to help you through the run. Figure out where your pit stops are, where the next objective is in the run and keep track of your time. Don't forget, you'll probably be doing it on a fresh new character, so mount speed is highly important for runs. As is Major Gallop / Major Expedition. So the faster you can unlock speed, the faster you will get to the next set of quest lines.
It takes 3-4 hours to 100% complete each zone while speedquesting. So a speedrun of the whole game would take 16 * 3.5 = 56 hours. If you just wanted to do a single faction, I could see it taking 20 hours.

That sounds about right, but at least you can mash through the text pretty fast. Games like Xenogears, in english, can last up to 18 hours with good RNG  Just cause the scroll speed of the text is SO DARN SLOW.

I believe Alliance Rank 50 requires around 60 million AP

Waiting for the moment that all of the RNG occurs in the best way is literally what some speed runs are. Given long enough time, I would argue that most top runs of most games depend on good RNG to improve the run any further.

The final battle with Molag Ball is at the end of the main main questline. The main main questline = Harborage. So yes, you have to do all of those quests.
