No you need both, if you want the ESO subscription benefits.

Originally you were not going to need PS Plus to access the game but it was changed and so now, like any other online game on PS4, you need PS Plus.

Not true. You only need PS Plus to play the game. ESO+ is for in-game perks and not mandatory.

The Answer was right based on the question but I have expanded for clarity

I'm not sure of the reason though. Like why when it was subscription based PS plus wasn't required but it is now. It's not like Sony made money from the Eso subscription, did they?

Before console release there was a lot of concern about paying the mandatory subscription for ESO and then another mandatory subscription for PS4. Due to how unfair that would've been they made ESO Buy 2 Play instead of Pay to Play, which you would've had to buy it AND pay for it on top of paying for PS+. After all that's a LOT to pay to play the game.

Even after B2P there was still a period of time where ZOS said Xbox would need Gold to play but PS4 would not need PS+ it was only a month or two before beta that they changed it to PS4 would need PS+ to play.

Hmm I'm not really sure the removal of subscription was wise. On most MMOs subscription fees are the reason we got new content and bug fixes.

At any rate PS+ and XBG are all you require to play, besides the game itself lol

I'm sure they ran the numbers and decided offering B2P, crown store, optional sub and B2P DLC was the best way to make the most $$$.

I'm one of those suckers that has subscribed since PC launch, bought every DLC even though I didn't need to and has spent too much in the crown store... I will support you ZOS just keep the TES stuff coming.

Maybe I think it could have been pessimism though, like maybe they thought not enough people would have been interested on console on the long run. Forgetting they managed to get the elder scrolls feel very near perfect.

I like eso plus to be fair though. It gives you access to dlc. I still think it would be more wise from them if they had went with expansion route(they'd have one big expansion by now I guess) even if that means id have spent more. I think it could have allowed them to over staff and then have multiple design teams etc.

yeah, I hear you. Definitely don't think it was the best decision, but that moutain of monthly fees can certainly turn people off >.<

I guess parents and young teenagers feel the anxiety of the cost. I'd have to ask if online games were suited to those who couldn't afford it though. We all atleast pulled in enough in a month or whatever to buy the disc.

I do get it like. The first MMO I played was f2p and the next one could be but I think the most successful online games had a certain predictable pattern for a good reason. I don't doubt that they make good money but I bet it's an uneven amount each month.

I just think maybe they should try a big decent costing expansion(none of the dlc is what I'd call expansion size. All of them together feel like an expansion though), that way there's large funds to fix the problems that arise in all online games.

Not sure why PS plus is required.

Never winter is free 2 play with a crown store equivalent and doesn't require a game purchase or PS plus

I guess it just depends. PS plus is pretty good anyway. The monthly games have been average the last while but once in a while you get something epic. Like Rocket League
