Opinions on joining groups

As I've said before, I'm starting up new characters, but am wondering if, in the past, I've been doing it wrong.

Why would a sorcerer join the Undaunted? Especially for RP purposes. Or the fighters guild.

The same holds true for a fighter joining the mages guild.

I can see a NB joining either of them though.

What about a fighter in the TG? Or a sorcerer for that matter.

DB, okay, maybe anyone would join, but, honestly, being stealthy is kind of part of the territory, so why a fighter class.

Sorry - random thoughts. I have a bad habit of joining everything and being a master of all the crafting types too, even if I don't use them (as a sorcerer, I honestly don't get a lot of use out of smithing).

Thoughts?

It all depends on your Role or how you approach the game. You don't need to do everything, the Undaunted certainly has not helped any of my characters, as I have yet to get any past Rank 6 or so in that Guild. I don't think I have even spent a skill point in that guild.

So, if you want to limit what a character does, go for it. In fact, it makes Alts more interesting if they are doing different things than other characters do. I have alts that have never done one thing for the Thieves or the Dark Brotherhood and probably never will. I have one character who wallows in that content, but he would steal bread from your grandmother to make a sandwich with meat he stole from his grandmother.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

There are some very critical skills from the Fighters, Mages and undaunted guilds depending on your playstyle. Why join the Mages guild? For access to Meteor, a very strong ult for either stam or magicka. Why join the fighters guild? Besides all the great abilities, how about 9 ultimate every time you kill undead or daedra? Undaunted passives can give you access to 6% extra States depending on your gear.

If you only care about guilds for RP purposes, then do whatever you want. But each can offer excellent mechanical benefits.

For every "RP Reason" to not do something, there's an "RP Reason" to do something.

Like to also note that a "sorcerer" is not necessarily a mage, you are certainly capable of playing (and roleplaying) a fighter or roguish sorcerer, or any class for that matter. I should also note that the Fighter's Guild has always been more of a band of mercenaries than literal fighters in the combat sense, though in this game they're more like... for-hire paladins or something.
If you quote someone, and intend for them to see what you have said, be sure to Mention them with @[insert name].

I think he has a point. Joining guilds is not about making choices. It's about adding bonuses. Except for vampirism and lycanthropy, you can't have both which is great.

Sorry I know this is off topic and I hope to be a quick answer...

What does 9 ultimate mean? I've seen some passive skills add 6 ultimate. I don't understand what's being added? Do you need 100 before the ultimate is ready?

Each ultimate has a cost, some below 100, many over that figure. The sooner you build it up the sooner you can throw it on mobs/bosses/enemy players again.

You were a random regular joe/jane. Mannimarco captured you and killed you, ripping out your soul. This provides enough of a 'critical juncture' or 'pivotal character crisis moment' for you to completely and profoundly reinvent yourself in ways that address that monumental event. Why join the undaunted? Because. Just because. Why the fighters guild? Just because. Why anything? Just because.

Because you were captured, killed, ripped asunder from your elemental essential self, and now happen to be walking on normal dirt once again. That's why.

It all depends on your character.
Money and fame are good enough reasons to run dungeons. Add a bit of adventure spirit to the mix... Not every sorc is supposed to be a book worm type that lives in a library, right? Also they might have personal (or maybe even family) relationships with guild members.
Also, sorcerer might be a scientist that studies dwemer or ayleids or daedric shrines/worship and just collaborates with the guilds... Cause not every sorcerer is powerful enough to handle those monsters that hide in old ruins. Or maybe they're after powerful artifacts that can be found in ancient ruins or fell into hands of dungeon quest's antagonists...

I started out playing ESO this way, same as how I approach the single player Elder Scrolls games. I always only joined one or two factions and saved most of the quests for future playthroughs. If I was playing a bookish Dunmer mage, why would he want to bother with brutish Companions guild, for example. Likewise an Orc barbarian specializing in two-handed axes would be the last to consider joining the College of Winterhold. As a result, despite many playthroughs of Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind, I still have not completed some of the important questlines, always saving lots of content for future characters.

With ESO, however, once I visited Cyrodiil the first time, I was hooked, and began to practice and try learning about some of the math behind the game in an effort to improve my build for PVP. Eventually holding off on joining the mages guild took a backseat to unlocking Radiant Magelight so I could find some annoying nightblade, or maximizing all the passives possible, etc.

I completely get where you're coming from, but you may reach a point where you want to make the character as competitive as possible in PVP. In which case, it's worth unlocking all the passives that have any impact. Otherwise, carry on and simply do only those faction quests that seem interesting for the character you're playing.
