Can anyone explain to me what they are exactly? If I purchase a batch of them does that mean that I can craft anything I want despite lacking materials to do it? If I were to use a mimic stones I could craft an entire set?

Yes you can but you need to learn the "styles" first , ie, get the motifs etc.

I already know the styles (Motifs) The problem is the lack of traits. I want to create the entire clothing set of Law of Julianos , but what's preventing me from doing it is due to lack of traits and mats.

You can use the Mimic Stones to replace any Racial Style Material you don't have to make a certain racial style

However, you still have to know the Racial Style Motif to craft in that style.

The Mimic stones are nice as some of the new racial styles have some rare style materials that don't drop all that often.

You need to research the "traits" that will be your bottle neck as it takes time to do the research of each trait.

You get the Trait stones from farming certain containers or deconning mob loot. Except Nirn, you can only either farm that one or buy it from a guild store.

Ah OK. So the Mimic Stones are pretty much useless for me since I still have to research traits.

Mimic stones are great when crafting armor that requires style materials that are hard to obtains, such as Malachite or Polished Shillings. If you're just looking to craft typical racial armor you dont really need it.

Mimic Stones are simply a "substitute" for style materials. They have no other function outside of this.

These have nothing to do with research, traits, or actual crafting materials.
