[PS4] Mudcrab chitins - do they even...

DROP???? I have killed approx 100 mudcrabs in total yesterday (different alliances, different levels) and got zero chitins. What am i doing wrong?

I don't play on consoles, but I was getting them in vet areas. I was farming for the Monster Hunter achievement (and getting CP) - I have about 150 or so now...

Between the Ayleid Ruin (enchanter survey) and the city of Southpoint on the Grahtwood beach is the only place I've reliably found Mudcrab Chitin.

There are two kind of mubcrabs in the game, High Health (Brown) and Low Health (Tan). Both types of crabs can spawn at any crab spawn location, although there are a few areas that only spawn the high health ones (and I am not telling you where).

Anyway, you have a 33% to 50% chance of getting a chitin from a high health crab. You have a 0% chance with the low health ones.

I have never gotten a chitin from Wrothgar, and I am not sure if the other DLC's give them up with any regularity. But, I can get plenty from Crabs I find in Silver and Gold zones.

The only place that I personally have found them was from the crabs in Hew's Bane. I haven't ever found one in Wrothgar, either. It very much seems to be entirely about finding the right place to get them. They do drop, so just keep looking until you find what works best for you!

Like others have said, there are two types of mudcrabs. There are tan ones and a darker brown ones. The darker brown ones drop the chitins.

@Ackwalan Thanks for pointing that out. I use an addon that shows me the numerical value of the Health of a Mob, so that is how I determine which crab it is. I never really paid attention to the colors of them.

They've been dropping like crazy for me. Not sure why.

I also got some from here the other day while skyshard hunting, had not bothered killing crabs other than in Wrothgar before that.

It is really a rather rubbish implementation. Some zones don't drop any chitin at all from their crabs, like Wrothgar, and some zones you can farm them easily from instaspawning lowlevel mudcrabs, like Ebonheart.

Why was it so hard for ZOS to have all mudcrabs have an equal chance for dropping a chitin, like 1/5 times or around there?
