Hi everyone :),

I just saw this video from Elloa, where she is briefly also talking about Housing comming next year:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYujVAi8s7I

Could someone please explain me in more details, what does it mean, that the Housing is going to be "instanced"? ESO is my first MMO and I was not playing Skyrim anymore, when the Housing DLC came out.

I am imagining just very little, that "instanced" means something like not everyone is going to "see" my house and that there is going to be an area, where each player will "find" their house after the buy it, but somehow other players will have their house "on the same spot" without interfering with each other`s house.

But how does it work in more detail? Elloa spoke in that above video about that most probably there will be also Guild halls (bigger mansion-like houses).
How did "instanced housing" work in other MMOs? Will I for example be able to visit my friend in his/her house? Will there be an option to be a neighbour of my friend`s house - be able to choose that my house will be next to someone other`s house ? Will I be able to "see" their house, even if technically their house and my house will be on the same spot of the map?

Any info from your previous experience with instanced housing is appreciated :)!!

aha, so If I understand correctly, I group with my friend and then I will be able to see and visit his house and he will be able to see and visit my house, right?

And what If we both choose the same spot when buying and placing our house, how did it work in such a case in previous MMOs?

Leaders has the shard, or instance in this case.

In theory, everyone will have the same entrances to houses, you won't see like 100s of individual houses, it will be like the entrance to a thieves den, once you enter you are inside leaders house.

Other games have allowed for friends or guild members to come and go in your house, some games allow open house access, we dunno what this will be.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

In the last patch notes, ZOS said that they are removing and/or editing NPC houses and abandoned houses in the wilderness to suit the upcoming player housing.

    I thought I'd mention this.

edit: However, other old games like Two Worlds 2 that are single player RPG essentially but have multiplayer as well and also housing have it that you do teleport into instanced area, if you group somebody, then they can enter the group leader's house.

Today we make our stand. Today we take back the Ruby Throne, which is ours by ancient right and the blessings of the Divines.

You've basically got a handle on how instancing basically works - just like how the 4-person group dungeons work: You can have 20 individual ungrouped people all walk up to the door of The Banished Cells. These 20 can all see each other standing there. Then they all enter the instanced dungeon, and the server splits them all off into their own individual bubbles, each single ungrouped person in their own individual instance of the dungeon, all alone.

Then, they all turn around and exit their individually instanced bubble of Banished Cells, and re-enter a shared instance of the island of Auridon.

It gets more complex when you factor in multiple servers, so that there are different instances of Auridon, and that sometimes people get shifted around between those in order to try and not overburden an individual machine, but the mechanic is the same.

So just to clarify Zenimax has released no OFFICIAL details on player housing, or did I miss something very, very recent?

I don't think there's any way you make player housing not instanced with seven million players ... regardless of what ZOS has announced.

Indeed. Even for ZOS, this is a logical and "common sense" scenario in which there is no "grey fuzzy area" that could be accidentally taken in an unpopular direction. Essentially, without instancing, your "player house" isn't really YOUR house if every man and his mother can walk through it without permission of access. And as stated, this sort of "instancing" is already in place with trials and group dungeons such as Banished Cells, etc.

As others mentioned Instancing is the way to go. However it's not the only way it can be done successfully.

Dark Age of Camelot did have player housing entire Zones in each faction. This was very cool. Individuals had houses and guilds had Huge guild Mansions with internal Crafting stations, Guild Stores on the outside and the houses themselves were highly customizable with Dungeon Trophies hanging on internal walls. Head of a dragon or beast etc...Stuffed on the wall

Also there were permissions on who could enter etc...Guild officers could allow anyone they trusted to enter for any reason etc.

On the flip side plots had game controlled prices, and those closer to the main entrance / Auction Market hubs were insanely expensive. I had a house for years in game.

OT: I miss my Bard at Speed 5 running our 8 man around the RVR zones, and the Lurikeen Resistance guild lol.

You could take a peek at WildStars housing plots for a good idea of how the process works.
