Questions re: Japanese localization

First of all, it is great to see ESO available in other languages. I am working with the community to bring localization support to all my addons.

I do have some questions, however. Firstly, how do we set the client to use Japanese? The updated launcher still only shows EN, DE, and FR as options.

Next, what is the proper cvar designation for Japanese. Some people have been using JP however I believe it is actually JA.

Thanks in advance for any clarification on this.

Off Topic Curiosity. Don't you have to install each localization if you change the language? We did for Skyrim.

Which you may have to do for Japanese, if that is the case.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Not for the other two already supported (DE and FR). These are already included in the English client. You can switch to them using a command in-game, for example to switch to German type /script SetCVar("Language.2", "de") in the chat. (Type /script SetCVar("Language.2", "en") to switch back.)

I have done this for testing purposes, though I believe some behind the scenes things aren't actually changed until you properly set the language using the launcher and reload. Never had to download anything though.

I can type /script SetCVar("Language.2", "ja") in-game now and it acts like it's switching but everything remains in whatever the last language you had set was, and there is no option for Japanese in the Launcher which seems wrong.

Wow, so your saying that I have French and German vocalizations on my client? Or just the text?

You still may have to install the Japanese Client. Simply because the lettering is different unlike different western languages which use the same letters (hence same fonts and character sets)

It would be nice if this is the case to include the localization on the PTS so Addon Developers could do what you want to do. There may also be some things in the game that are different enough that they just can't swap languages.

That's true for text, not for voice-over though. If you switch ingame you'll have all text in english (let's assume your client is in french and you switched to english) but NPCs will still all speak french.
And if you change the language via the launcher/client, you'll have to download a whole new bunch of files (which I assume to be voice-over audio files)

I believe (but have no source) that the Japanese language version is only available with the Japanese client, and I believe (again, no source) that the Japanese client is only available in Japan.
