Lore discussion: Is Tamriel a floating continent?

Per a certain quest in Bangkorai we know that the water of Nirn is formed of mortal memories. There is a continual supply of mortals making memories, and yet Tamriel's basic shape has remained unchanged from the Second Era into the Fourth; it hasn't completely flooded or turned into an island chain. Add to that we hear about how Yokuda and Thras 'sank' when they were destroyed...is Tamriel floating? If not, where is all the water going?

Tamriel probably isn't. There's a lot of "fluidity" to the setting, meaning that even if what we're told in Bangkorai is accurate it isn't going to flood the world.

It's likely that Thras and Yokuda sank as a result of external, mystical, events, rather than the world's ocean levels raising.

This is why we need water mounts . In case someone cures Alzheimer's and becomes a Lich .

That would only be the case if memories had an actual physical correlation to water. You could think of water as being one massive "Harddrive" that stores memories, but then again the stone is said to provide an endless source of water, and since it said water comes from memories then you're right, there would just be more and more water piling up until it becomes Water World up in here where the Throat of the World's summit turns into a tropical island.

It actually hurts a little to think about this. I can't figure out for sure, too many if's, and's, or but's.

Maybe it's all being consumed by an army of giant emperor crabs waiting out in the ocean? That sounds sufficiently deranged.
