Wait, if you change Character while doing VMSA...

So, I was doing VMSA with one of my toons and was on Boss Round of stage 4. I'd been to the bank a couple of times through the arena to get potions and repair kits and such. This time I noted that I had a bunch of useful stuff on my other toon, so I change characters to put the stuff from my other toon into the bank for my VMSA toon to pick up.

I get the stuff, go back to the arena and poof. Round 1 Stage 1, completely reset.

Kill me.

I'm not usually the person who does stuff like this. I don't do dungeons or Trials etc because I'm a scummy PvPer, hence why I've only first attempted this now.

I don't even know why I'm doing it to be honest. I wanted a Maelstrom Sword but I'm most likely not gonna get anything useful so I may just give up on it permanently.

I have done regular MSA once and I did a quest then I think, should there be a quest now too? Because there is no quest I can get.

When you go to the arena (with your group setting on Veteran) you should be able to accept the quest 'Veteran Maelstrom Arena' from the peculiar daedric 'woman'. It's the quest that saves your progress, not just the action of completing the arena. You can have both normal and vet quests active, so that shouldn't be a problem. Double check that you don't have a vet quest, then go back to the entrance and see if she will give it to you.

With the quest, arena progress is saved - though round progress isn't.

As I mentioned, the normal and vet quests are independent - if you start it on vet, get to round 4, leave and set it to normal, you will start at the stage you last reached with the normal quest. Leaving and returning again with it set to veteran should revert it to the last arena you reached with the veteran quest.

Just speak to Fa-Nuit-Hen, the demiprince you took the quest from originally. There might not be the quest hub but talking to him grants you the quest.

Probably changed to normal mode, go back to vet and it'll be where you left off

Just checked. I have neither quest and cannot pick up a quest either.

I have left the arena multiple times while doing it however and it still saved my progress when I went to a town and such and it didn't reset the stage or the round.

And there is 100% no quest I can get from any Daedra in or out of the arena. So I dunno. I think I'll just never ever go near it again because it's not fun, it's just frustrating to me.

There should definitely be a quest available if you don't have it already - it's probably best to just send a ticket to support. It may take a while, but it's worth sending off so that they can hopefully fix it by the time your morale has come back up enough to try it again.

The first attempt at vMA is without a doubt the most soul-sucking experience in the game. Sorry that it's been made even worse for you

Wow, that sucks... but OP, my first clear took over 700 soul gems combined, no kidding. I had to buy repair kits with crowns and lots of Grand Repair kits. Also, you can just bring around 100k gold with you and go back to the wayshrine after you die & your armor's almost broke, so you can repair at the merchant outside the main portal and then you'll still be at the same stage and round as you were, just don't take more than 5 (or 10?) minutes outside, or it'll reset to round 1 of whatever stage you were on -- also make sure you're progressing with the veteran quest.

Not trying to discourage you here I love PvP but I do attempt the occasional Trial etc when there's something organized in my guild

First time I tried vMSA, I got stuck on the Mini Engine Guardian boss too and I left cuz it was depressing losing over and over to that thing. But after a 2 hour break and emptying my bank account to make some epic TBS I gave it another go...

.. and I only needed like 10 mins to get back where I was

So yeah, just don't give up on this. You'll get the hang of it

The toon I was doing it with was only logged off for about 1 minute before I logged back onto her and I've checked pretty much everything else.

Yeah, that Lamia boss made me want to shove a knife in both my eyes then slam my head on a table repeatably. I'm not too fussed about trying again XD


Thanks everyone for all the support btw. It's really nice seeing the amount of people willing to help and give advice about things on the forums. I think I'll leave VMSA for now because it's the 100% opposite of fun and I'm not sure it's even worth doing it as all I want to 1 measly sword and I doubt RNG qill be kind to me.

That's very strange, because there have been days where I haven't been in the mood to do a full run and so I'll go to stage 5 and log out for the night, get back on and I'll still be at that stage, but of course round 1 (since the rounds reset) as long as you have the quest, your progress will be saved, so without that quest, I wouldn't bother trying again.

Wait at least 10 minutes elsewhere, not inside Maelstrom, and see if the quest pops up again but if it doesn't then it looks like you'll have to wait until tomorrow/daily resets before attempting it again.

Read the rest of what I said. and at the time, I was unaware that going back to the wayshrine was safe, I just assumed that it would kick me out because of players complaining about being kicked out when they went to repair or it resetting, so I didn't wanna take any chances.

this happened to me once the group had auto changed itself to normal from vetran. simply leaving the areana and switching back to vet resolved it.

anytime you log out or lag out, it resets vmsa. You should pick up the quest, too. that way if you log/lag out you will start at the befinning of the stage rather than at the befinning of the arena. Hope that helps clarify your situation better.
