So it JUST occured to me.

We're supposed to be seeing CR170 and CR180 equipment in the future right? Well think about this: If CR160 uses so many materials to make THEM, how much will the NEW stuff require?! :#

@ZOS_RichLambert There needs to be a way of increasing the level of items that we have. The monster helm and maelstrom weapon grind are too sill to have to do it every time that item levels are increased.

Depends on a couple other variables as well. The new ore/leather/silk could drop in less quantity's and less frequently then are current CR 160 materials.

Does that also mean the Gold Zones will be updated to CR170/180/ETC? With ONE TAMRIEL in the works, will everything scale up to the current CR level? I understand low levels will be battled leveled in higher level zones but what about us end-game players? Will low level content be scaled up for us? I would kind of like to go back and explore old content i skipped over during the leveling process.

So using 3 hours worth of material farming is too expensive when it increases your performance drastically? Sheesh, it is amazing the stuff I see people say on ESO...

I'm not that effective of a farmer... and hate farming. I like exploring, playing with friends. Not a min-maxer. Alt-o-holic and explorer here.

I do the things in game that feel fun to me.

As for gear that works, at that level I worry about buying and finding stuff, and improve the heck out of it.

Ya know, CP limit is already way above gear level. Just because they're raising the CP cap doesn't necessarily mean they're raising the gear level as well, it's not like they'd be doing it to 'keep it even' or something.
The only thing it'd do is, as someone here already said, put us back "on the hamster wheel" again which is a TERRIBLE game play choice in my opinion, and I believe many people share my opinion. Honestly, it's not even the crafting/grinding that's the worst, it's the farming for drops with the atrocious RNG that's in place currently. You can (albeit without much enjoyment) farm/grind the mats/gold for a CP160 gold piece in about an hour or two, but it might take you 50 something vMSA runs to get the exact traited weapon you want, at like 60 minutes+ per run.
And the worst part is, if they do again what they did with the damage value gap between CP160 gold and anything less, people will be FORCED to do it all over again just to stay relevant.
Yes, MMOs shouldn't stagnate, but the 'churn' of gear that supposed to keep players interested is the introduction of interesting and compelling gear and build choices, not the same thing as before just now your current gear sucks because there's a version with 20% higher values that invalidates your leveled gear so go farm the same thing all over again. That's BS.

My guess is they will adjust 160CP to be around 50 mats an item, 170CP to be 100 mats an item, and 180CP to what we currently have with 150 mats an item. People will complain that they spent 150 mats an item for 160CP for the outrage that it gets reduced by 2/3 the cost, ZOS will ignore you and we all move on.

With the way that @ZOS_RichLambert described it in a recent interview, when One Tamriel arrives all nodes in all zones will use the current DLC scaling - 50% to your level, 50% to your crafting proficiency. This *should* mean that a future CP 180 character with 10/10 crafting will always find the max level resource nodes regardless of the locale. I do hope that the material cost is not increased, though.

It'd be great if Rich could confirm this :)

In theory it should be unchanged - a new instance should be created whenever the zone cap is reached - just as it is now. However, I guess that the cap will be reached more frequently with the higher total zone population... We can only hope that any issues get worked out quickly.

    Again, in theory!

I can relate to your feelings on this.
Considering that the next update is the smallest dlc yet, raising gear cap is practically pointless.

I think they'll raise it when the following DLC does launch. And by DLC, I'm talking new zones/ trials and further PVP updates rather than this full on cosmetic DLC dubbed "Update 11". Which shouldn't be till what, October/November?

From what I'm seeing though, it looks to be just the CP cap itself is being raised and not the max gear level.

The material increase was done to make max level gear from crafting a bit more difficult to acquire, similar to drop sets with good traits which requires stupendous grind.

I assume that CP 160 mat requirements will be lowered, once a gear level increase comes. Then again, it will probably be a two-step increase, with CP170 requiring a low amount of new mats and CP180 on par with what we now have at 160.

That at least would make sense, so I hope for the best.

I have only two crafted gold CP-160 sets
My training set is CP 150 purple and a prosperous CP-150 is in the making.

Considering that the difference between purple CP-150 and gold CP-160 is not that big and you do seldom wear only crafted...
So making CP-150 is imo fine for easy going playing, trying out new sets, etc
difference being significant less than player skill level effect.

I am wondering if that 10 CP difference can be used again when we for example get the next generation sets:
    1. The new CP-180 sets are more expensive and some sets will be very hard to grind.
    2. These CP-180 sets have a twin at CP-170 level with bigger chance to drop & cheaper with mats to craft
    3. We get the possibilty to upgrade craft all existing set items to the CP-170 level
    4. Rinse and repeat when CP-200 sets come with CP-190

In this way all your time spent grinding for that special set, your special set, is not really lost because you can always use it at only a slightly lower performance level than the top notch end game.

    EDIT:
And this approach could also give a place, a use for Jewelry crafting:
    1. NOT to craft Jewelry from mats
    2. NOT to upgrade for example from blue to purple
    3. BUT to upgrade for example Footman Jewelry from level CP-140 to now CP-150 and with CP-180 sets to CP-170.

He is almost certainly wrong though, because since the Orsinium patch, if a player does not wear the best gear for his base level, even his scaled up stats suck, therefore that players will be scaled in more/all zones does not mean gear levels will be somehow minimized.
Add to that the fact that ZOS could have ditched upper end gear levels along with vet ranks, yet it chose to put effort into reimplementing them using CPs.
