Unwanted Random People Joining My Group

As the title says above but why are random people suddenly joining my group without my knowledge and say so? I don't know any of them and just had to kick 7 of them in less than 3 minutes. Is there a Private Party option I've not seen or clicked? Is it something to do with today's Xbox One EU maintenance? Is it something I've done wrong or not done?

On PS4 you can set your party private while creating it. Xbox should have the same and if it doesn't then that is sad...

I meant group sorry, I'm in a private Xbox Chat but people are randomly joining myself and friend's in game group and I don't know why. Don't know what I've done or clicked to suddenly make this an issue as it's never happened before. Is it anything to do with today's Xbox EU maintenance?

Well on PS4 it is possible if the group is not private or invite only for anyone associated via friend list be it mutual or directly with anyone in the group to join the party. Therefore in this case your friend list can work against you...

Now if you're talking about an in-game party that's another story and only people given invites into the group can join so perhaps group finder is clashing with existing groups made without group finder?

It's only happening while using the activity/dungeon finder. They are also not anybody on mine or my friend's Xbox Live's Friend List, and they are not even in the same alliance as us so we can't join them to play anyway. It's bloody strange and weird and has never happened before in the whole year plus some that we've been playing the game together.

In that case then yeah group finder is all about random people grouping together. If you want a group you have control over who joins or not then don't use group finder.

If group finder groups DO have control over who joins then perhaps something did go awry lol

facepalms What did you think the random group finder was for? It finds you a random group. If you want only specific people, you have to form the group manually.

Hey.. people just want to fit in. They just want to belong. But, I'm not in any group. Nobody likes me. Ha ha! No group finder option for PS4.. but, I don't know if it's the same, some guilds do have the option of any member being able to invite others. So, yes, maybe the leader of the group or whoever create it can set the option level.

Okay I may not have explained myself properly but I was trying to play and type and query all at the same time when I first asked the question. My issue last night was not random people joining us for dungeons, it was more that we weren't being put in any dungeons instantly like we were previously and prior to the maintenance yesterday, and instead were lumbered with random people who weren't even in the same alliance. I wasn't aware that playing with other alliances was even a thing yet so it confused me.

That's because you turned on the group finder. That is designed to drag in other people at random.

In fact, you're part of the problem with the group finder that you'll see coming up on these forums repeatedly: People waiting around for a group, only to finally get one, and be instantly kicked without explanation.

Because group finder can bug out and plonk 2-3 groups into one big group sometimes. It's silly. They're in queue for the same dungeon/random as you, but of course it's bugged at times.

Okay then, so it was something I did. That's all I wanted to know thank you although I did say it was probably something I'd done and not noticed or realised. Is the group finder separate or the same as the activity finder on the Xbox One? I don't dungeon a lot or be the group leader when I'm dungeon delving with my friend so that's why I'm not as familiar with the lobby/group mechanics and had issues with it.

Yeah, as I recall, the activity finder is designed to allow players to PUG for dungeons, trials, or other group content. I don't remember if it's set up for worldbosses and other open world content (I just don't use it), but that's the basic idea. If you're turning on the finder, you're telling the game, "hey, I need some live bodies to do a thing," and the game lets you sort out what that is on your own.

PUG? Sorry but I'm a console gamer who plays Solo most of the time, I'm not up on my acronyms. But I get and understand the point about the live bodies thing, thank you. I shall also be more careful and less freaked out by randomers joining my groups in future

on pc that thing is called "group & activity finder", if you join queue, random people may join. if you or the leader of your group group didn't join queue and random people still join, bug.

Join a guild. Play with them. Stop using stupid, broken since beta group finder.

For group public dungeons and Undaunted Trials, people of differing alliances can group and play together. It's been this way for a long time now. If you're using Group Finder, then those random people it matches you with can be of differing alliances than you. If you're creating your own groups, you can directly invite people of differing alliances.

PS... This is a GREAT way to conduct in person trades with players of differing alliances. Just group with them and meet them in a public group dungeon. Since I'm AD and based out of Rawl'kha, I meet people in Selene's for private sales/buys on a regular basis.

Group finder's improved quite a bit since launch, I can actually find groups with it now unlike I used to.

As much as I may want to join a guild to help me in my occasional dungeon delving I actually have crippling social anxiety issues which interfere with my abilities to group up and game. It's one of the many reason's that I'm usually just with my small circle of friends and why the only guilds I've joined are mainly trading focused guilds. I also wasn't aware that the group finder was broken, I'll have to be more careful in future.

The group finder isn't perfect but players using it wrong don't make it better. People queuing and going afk; people queuing for the wrong roles or for all roles at once; people queuing for activities that they don't intend to do...
