Does anyone get banned for botting?

I have seen the same player for weeks standing in the same spot in Wrothgar just swinging a sword continuously at a spot that two ogres respawn. Sometimes they have 2 pets, other times the pets died and they don't recast. I filmed it twice and put it on YouTube, submitting feedback with the link, but the person is still there. Has anyone else seen the same thing? Easy XP and CP I guess...

Also, what you describe is hardly botting/exploiting - it just pisses RPers off. You must watch the '50 meteors per second' clips - that is proper.

If you compare the number of bots now to how it was a year ago it's like night and day. Maybe they don't catch all, but compared to the bot trains of the old, this is nothing.

    In theory yes.

However there has for a long time been some issues of reports landing on the desk of the people who need to actually take action. ZOS doesn't to my understanding have a GM team any more, they have their customer service (outsourced) which have to deal with issues.

Jessica actually posted an email which you can send evidence of exploiters to in another thread, might be worth sending the information over to that and see if it lands on the right desk.

Bots get banned. Players who are actually at their keyboards don't, even if they're using heavy automation. So sometimes you'll see people who appear to be botting, but because they're actually at the keyboard, they're not violating the Terms of Service.

I've seen that character, too, and wondered what the heck he was doing. Light attack x many times and then a random emote. Occasionally, there is another (always the same) character with him.

Two ogres every few minutes can't give that much XP or CP, can it?

I've reported bot trains and seen them still there weeks later, running the same paths, doing instant 90 degree turns. I stopped reporting them as nothing seems to happen.

Have you reported them? They won't get banned if they don't get reported. But as was said above, if it's just a player doing repetitive actions at their keyboard, that's not botting so that's not bannable.

    Indeed.

I'm sure that botting is using a 3rd party program, not hitting the same key on your keyboard/controller trigger with an elastic band.

So standing in one spot and having a macro to infinitely swing a 2 handed sword at the same spot while you could be away for hours isn't botting? The XP is small, but the person is there every time I go by, doing the same motion while standing in the same spot. No one is sitting at their keyboard for hours every day doing a single motion.

If you wanted him banned, see if you can get him to come on the forum. Taunt other players and tell the mods they suck and no one will do anythjng to him.

It seems to be the only way to get a real ban.

Maybe I should lower the resolution and film a one hour video of this person botting in the same place. I got my 615 champion points by actually playing, while they are racking them up while away from the game. It is an exploit.

Depends on if they are using actual botting software or just rubber banding their controller or mouse. I don't think rubber banding deserves a ban plus it is undetectable and isn't even really considered botting.

Let the people kill the one mob every minute. Is it really going to affect your gameplay in any way? You can get more done in one minute than they do in an hour.

I highly doubt this is a bot. What you describe them doing is so ineffective for well...anything, I can't imagine someone taking the risk for absolutely no gain.

Yes, that would be, because macros are not allowed. But the point being made above was that it could be the case that someone is sitting at their keyboard doing exactly the same thing, and that would not be botting.
Depends on if they are using actual botting software or just rubber banding their controller or mouse. I don't think rubber banding deserves a ban plus it is undetectable and isn't even really considered botting.
I think technically rubber-banding the controller would come under
"hardware or any other method of support that may in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities" by "permit[ting] You to use Services without human input", which is not allowed. As you say though, it's essentially undetectable.

Excuse me? They're absolutely botting and exploiting. While it's not much of an EXP grind bot, it's most certainly an Alcharest (poison oil) farming bot and should not only be shut down ASAFP, but the player involved should be at the very least temp banned for a week, and their ill gotten gains (All poison making oils, poisons already made, plus all of their gold on ALL of their characters!) deleted from their accounts.

Actually, the automation is also against the ToS, but it is probably harder for ZOS to prove this since there is a person at the keyboard.

... Being in the same exact location firing off light attacks for 8-16 hours is indeed botting/exploiting. It's not hacking, but it is still cheating and still bannable, even though ZOS refuses to do so.

More money to be made by letting them stay and losing the people who give a ***, than kicking the cheaters... is my guess.

This. There's very few permanent bans handed out in ESO. For instance; all of those players caught using CE, most of them have had their bans lifted. Which is quite sad being that the majority of them were caught on video doing such acts.

They permanent ban bots but it often take a very long time. It is a bit better since a while. Most bots i recently reported were banned after a few days and not weeks like a while ago.
So please always report bots if you see them!

According to a rather old ZoS post - botting only gets you a 3-day suspension. And 3 repeated offenses a permanent ban.
I cba findng the post but it is there if you search it.
