Achievement hunting in low level zones

Hey all - I have like 480 + CP and was trying to finish the General Executioner achievement by running loops in the different EP zones of the Dolmens till I got all the generals. If adventurers arrived to the Dolmen while I was there I would back off and throw heals so I was not melting the mobs and such. One fella gave me grief even after I explained what I was doing and called me an a$$hole. He thought I should go to Cyrodil to hunt them which would be I believe super inefficient - all that horse riding. I know I could have hunted them in Silver and Gold too but the odds of getting that last one or two go down as it is totally random. Anyway, I got out of lowbie land as soon as possible. I don't want to impinge on someone else's game. For one I think One Tamriel will fix this kind of issue.

Any one else have this kind of experience or have thoughts on the matter.

Generally like you I back away from content when others try to do it as to not ruin their experience by one-shotting monsters.

I have had abuse hurled at me a few times for farming areas for CP when I am already VR16 (before it was removed) because the lower level players felt they were more entitled to it. I even helped someone in a public dungeon by telling them when a boss was up so they could tag it whilst I was helping a VR16 friend get it, was told to go *bleep* myself because I shouldn't be there as a VR16.

Personally I just ignore (normally, not with the game ignore system) and just stop helping them. They have no right to dictate how I play the game and as I had been kind to them at the start and still received abuse I won't go out of my way to aid them again or take steps to not interrupt their gameplay.

I will sit back and throw heals as well if there are other players around. I know some players how have gone for the achievement in the past have been jerks about it and just melted everything asap so they could do all 3 dolmens in a zone within the respawn cooldown.

If anyone gives you grief while you are just healing people, then it's their problem, not yours. Alternatively, you could throw one heal at the beginning and then just /dance or /sitchair You would still have credit and you can always hit the general if he spawns.

On the plus side I did get the achievement!!!!! :) I worked on it off and on and then just finally buckled down and ran dolmens till it was done!

I just finished all the dolmens for the achievement. I was worried about getting something really really good out of the low level dolmens which thankfully didn't happen. Keep farming in the gold area for achievements and lich set pieces. Don't decon them. The Daeloras staff still goes for 500k gold. Other pieces vary, but I have seen shoulders go for $250+

I have absolutely no problem farming low level areas with a high level character. If I am going after an achievement, I feel I have earned the right to get it done and out of the way, no matter who is in the area. I pay for a subscription - I play the way I want to play.

I ignore the lowbies that cry. I get my work done and move on. I wouldn't worry about it OP - those lowbies will get over it and you will get your achievement.

Of course this is my opinion.

Having high level played doing low level content really annoys me (maybe it shouldn't). Thankfully, when One Tamriel drops there will be full world scalling which will remove this problem.

I had someone message me in Reaper's March telling me I was an "insert ethnic slur here" because he couldn't "grind the mobs for xp". He was a level 26 in Reaper's March grinding only 1 of the 3 dolmens for xp - LOL.

I was melting mobs down with Liquid Lightning/Blockade to speed up the farm. I got told to leave, but I wasn't leaving until my last general, Lord Dregas, fell. It's bad enough that I only had a 3.75% chance in Reaper's March, and now some random kid tells me to go to Cyrodiil.... not happening. I ignored him and finally finished my grind and got my achievement and that's what everyone should do - IGNORE them. It's your game and you have every right to play it as you see fit. i would have offered to group with the guy (I group with randoms in Orsinium all the time) before he called me a "inser ethnic slur here".
    ..........
Legends say that level 26 brat is still grinding that one dolmen in Reaper's March every 20-30 minutes to get to level 50, LMFAO....

I use Auridon for this, personally. The 3 dolmens are quick rides from their respective wayshrines.

For me, they're CP something ranked so I don't worry about ruining someone else's time there.

That being said, when I have come upon a dolmen that is waaaaay below level, I only do it if nobody's around. I figure if they come upon me doing it with cp500+, that's their issue - not mine.

As someone who doesn't have any CP characters, and thus would still be on the lowbie side of this exchange... you didn't do anything wrong?

A lot of players think XP works differently than it does, I think. That's why some people get mad at CP players for even being present... they think you're there to steal a big portion of their precious leveling XPs with your higher level, when that's not at all how it works. So while they probably think they're justified in freaking out... they're not.

Sounds like you were handling the situation with courtesy toward the lowbies, and as a perpetual lowbie (dang alt-itis XD ), I thank you on behalf of other lowbies for that. Don't let a few misguided jerks disuade you from getting your achievements.

But I heard if you wait to open all the pinions until the very end increases the chance for a rare dolmen boss...

LOL! Would that it were true. I can't tell you how long I was in Eastmarch looking for the Sisters of temptation or whatever they are called - I kept getting the Frost Atro general.

I've been doing this too - I just sit back while the lowbies attack the dolmen monsters and i shoot one arrow at one mob of each of the spawns to get continued credit.

I don't think i've every gotten nasty remarks about it - however there was always another high CP character next to me who did not mind one shotting the mobs for the everyone.. maybe they spammed him instead lol.

I am currently above CP cap on my main, and doing a few dolmens per day in Cadwells Gold for the achievement because I find it fun, even though the RNG is dreadful. I'd go to my factions levelling zones but it bores me terribly to one-shot mobs, and it does annoy the newer players... the chances of getting the last generals there are better though because you know which ones spawn per zone, instead of it being completely random.

A couple of weeks ago I was questing with a newly created character of mine, and a CP400+ appeared on a level 25 dolmen one-shotting stuff. There were 4 of us lowbies there and we got no credit for kills, to the point that I pulled a /sitchair and /say and asked him politely to step back and just tag the boss when it spawned, if he really needed it. Luckily he read the chat and complied.

It's really just a matter of being polite and considerate. There's no benefit to the game if we antagonise newer players for getting the dolmen done in 1 minute instead of 3.

I used to hang back when sound dolmens or going for monster hunter but still got abuse for being around cp200 at that time. Now I just get on with it as its part of the game so why should I feel bad for doing it. With not much end game and having finished silver and gold, going through the achievements is really the only PvE I have left. Not big into the PvP areas, only really play solo so not that bothered about craglorn until max levelled.

The only time I will hang back now is if I'm farming certain creatures in an area where it's also a quest objective, if someone else turns up I just wait til they go.

I think you did nothing wrong, healing others is actually a nice gesture. And you can report the other player for abusive language.

If I'm farming dolmens I usually do it in the Gold areas to maximize on my own xp gains but also to remove the possibility of a unsavory interaction like what's been described above.

BTW the pinion thing is a rumor that's been around since pc beta and has no bearing on rare boss spawns. ;)

I was going for specific generals so it made more sense to do them in my factions starter zones to increase the odds of getting the ones I needed.

I was working on the very same achievement some time ago. Especially focusing on it around 1-6am because I was hunting those generals in low level zones and I also didn't want to interfere with other players that can make an actual use of the dolmen.

Sadly, you have to go to these zones for new players to get specific generals spawned, however, you can go to Cyrodiil since local anchors provide all bosses but it is inefficient. Takes redicilous amount of time.

Yeah, same here. I will first go and get the achievement for all Dolmens on a character, and then spend small chunks of time in a specific "bronze" zone to try and get the generals I need.

When I am farming Dolmens in lower level areas, I send out a Zone to announce the Dolmen is up and wait for others to show up. If they do, I get in few light attacks but otherwise stand back. If they get into trouble, I help out more. I have never had anyone get mad at me.

Last week, I told the others I was farming generals and linked the achievement. I then had a group of 4 or 5 that were following me around the zone because of this. They got a lot of Dolmens and did not risk any wipes and were quite appreciative of the Dolmen announcements. I picked up all 4 generals for the zone, although I only needed two of them. The others needed them so everyone was happy.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

This situation, max players farming in home alliance, has been a sore spot for ages. OP made the best of it. Bottom line is everyone paid for the game and have to right to play anywhere they want. If there is any blame for this, it goes to game designers. It only makes sense to get the best odds when grinding achievements. Let the lowbies complain if they want to, show them due consideration, and play your game. If they get salty, it's on them.
