Empower doesn't affect Ice Comet?

Hello!

Mages guild passive gives you empower 20% bonus damage on your next attack for 5 seconds when you cast mage guild spell.

Well, empower doesn't affect Ice Comet - is it a bug or everything is working as it should be?

I wouldnt trust ESO tooltips as far as I can throw them... Being pixels.. I cant throw them... So I cant trust them..

Best way to test it is cast ice comet on a mammoth without empower. Check the damage. Do this 3 or 4 times to see what the crit and non-crit damages look like.

Then try it after empowering. If you can see no difference, then you can know for sure. Seeing as that you are console, it might be hard to test this given you dont have addons. Im at work now so I can test it for ya when I get home.

Hopefully someone can test if for ya before that.

The thing is, Ice Comet is a Mages Guild ability too. If you have 2 Skill Points in the mages guild empower passive, you have 100% chance of empowerment. By using a Mages Guild ability, say Entropy, you get the empower buff. If you try to empower your Ice Comet, it'll just refresh the empower and not grant the buff to your Ice Comet. All mages guild abilities can give the empower buff - but because of the way the passive works, they cannot recieve it.

It definitely should or it requires tooltip to be changed... All attacks 20% damage except Mage Guild. Dawnbreaker receives dmg empower...

Dawnbreaker is the ultimate from Fighters Guild skill-line, thus it can be empowered. Mages Guild skills can grant empower, but cannot consume it due to the fact that each Mages Guild skill has a 100% chance to give it. Dark Flare works perfectly fine with empower. I don't see how the passive giving empower can be the reason that mages guild abilities don't benefit from it.

I was under the impression that ultimates are unable to benefit from empower at all. I never seem to notice empower being used up by things like flawless dawnbreaker or incapacitating strike on my nightblade.

Empower does affect Ice Comet. It self empowers and the empower only affects the initial hit. I've included combat log evidence from the latest PTS as evidence.

Without Might of the Guild, Ice Comet does 2901 on hit and DoTs tick for 840. Light attack damage before and after is 584.


With Might of the Guild, Ice Comet does 3469 on hit and DoTs tick for 840. Light attack damage before and after is 584. Thus Ice Comet empowers itself.


If I were instead to use a Mages' Guild ability before Ice Comet like Equilibrium to gain the Empower beforehand, Ice Comet still does 3469 on hit and DoT ticks of 840. Light attack damage before Equilibrium and after Ice Comet is 584.

Yea, it's a waste just like forcing a fully charged heavy attack after Ice Comet/Shooting Star in the belief that it will get empowered.
