Should I put my Kinect back on?

I don't know much on how the Xbox One works and was shocked people could actually here my family and dogs yap while playing ESO. I was wondering why my gamertag with a circle and dots inside was popping on from time to tim. After hearing other people ramble on and just noise I learnt it was because my kinect was on. So I disconnected and put the kinect away.

Now about a year later, I am playing ESO again. I don't have the kinect connected. Someone wanted me to join them. I am still learning and I don't know why they want me to join. Since I can't communicate with them, I am wondering if I should put my kinect back on.

So my questions are, why would people want me to party with them? I don't know how MMOs work so this is a new experience with me.Do they want to talk to me? Or do we just tag along and fight along each other? If it's the later then I can leave my kinect off, but how do I know what they want? So should I put my kinect on then? Then the next stupid question. How do I talk to them. Do I just start talking? How do I know they can hear me?

I am a hermit when it comes to interacting online since I mostly play single player games.

So what should I do? What are the things I should do? I mean what are the courtesy I need to do when my kinect is connected and turned on? Also if my kinect is on, how do I turn it on or off? I don't want to be that person who when I was close by herd was all noise or wind like sounds and had to leave so I didn't have to heart that anymore. Also if someone is talking to me, how do I know who it is, since there are so many people there.

Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

Can't you get a normal headset to plug into your controller? the Xbox kinect's built-in mic has terrible sound quality as well, and you'll have much more control with a headset that has a mute button on it. You also don't -need- to speak, you can message them, as no one should just expect others to use their voice chat on here, hence why Text chat (in-game) will be so much better when it eventually comes.

Also, to disable your Kinect's microphone:
Here's how to turn off the Kinect microphone:
Go to Settings. To do this, press the Menu button on your controller, or say, "Xbox, go to Settings."
    Select Kinect.
Uncheck 'Use Kinect microphone for chat.'

I use the kinect for a lot of things. But if you don't want to you can use a headset. At least with that you can mute with a button click.

    Dear fellow gamer.

as long as the Kinnect is connected to your system, everybody is theoretical able to hear everything you speak over the web. And count/identify the people in your room. That is the reason people found it "creepy" at least, that the XBone is always listening to your commands, even if turned off.

While you are connected, you have, on this closed system, absolute no *** clue, what is transfered to the Microsoft servers and after that, scanned by very real automated processes of the NSA. (Microsoft -- proud PRISM partner since 2008!)

Disconnect the Kinnect, and forget it ever existed, if it concerns you, that big brother is always watching you, whatever you are doing.

The same is true about any webcam connected to a PC, with a major difference. On a PC you are at least able to do something against the listening from the web. Except on the new spyware called Windows 10, with forced autoupdate and implemented ad-system, plus biggest botnet in existence. It's the same operating system, that works on your console, too.

They just wanna play bro, get a headset.

I would love to get one, and was ready to almost buy one, but sadly life felt me a swerve and I lost my job so can't get one now. All money I have goes to the family. I am lucky to have what I got and trying to make the best with what I have at the moment.

So hence why I ask.

soon you won have to worry about a Kinect or not. They will be introducing the text chat for consoles with the next DLC. So soon we will be able to expand our searches for items and grouping. We also can hear what others say via the audio and can reply if needed via the upcoming text chat

There should have been a headset included with the original unit.

Or, get something from the dollar store and just listen for a bit, to get a feel for hearing people.

DO NOT EVER USE the Kinect as a Mic

    You will be black listed.

Just helping you not be THaT PERSON.
Ignore anyone telling you to buy headphones just to listen because....that's not required but you do need to use the headset the came with your system or go to a GameStop or Walmart and buy a basic Xbox one brand version.

    Couple tips for you mate:

In the Xbox settings (not the game settings) there's an option "use Kinect as mic". This should be turned off unless you're going to be vigilant about what chat you are in.

If you are going to use the Kinect as a mic for group play, do it when your kids and pets are not making any noise.

You can keep the Kinect mic on if you just pay close attention to what chat channel you are in when playing. When you first log on, you will be in whatever channel you were last in when you logged off. When you join a group you will automatically join the group channel. Go into the game menu, hit Y, and leave any channels you are in if your dog is going ape$*!+.

If all is quiet and you wanna join a group and use the chat, just make sure your TV volume is low enough that you don't cause an echo when other people talk.

Lastly, get a mic for the controller. You can mute it at any time with one button, it's great. Using voice chat opens up a whole lot more fun in this game, but the Kinect mic really isn't the optimal tool for it.

Thank you everyone, I will not use my kinect then for chatting. I will leave it where it is then. Knowing me I will forget it's even on lol.

When I have the funds I will buy a nice head set. For now I will forgo the chatting. I tried listening with my sons head set and I didn't like the sound of the game. It took me out of the immersion so I will not go the cheap way since I am playing solo most times anyways.

I just wanted to make sure what to do, and you guys have answered. Thank you very much.

If it is actually powered down it does not. If it is in standby mode perhaps it is. I never put mine in standby because it uses power.
