I bought it ages ago, which unlocks the ability to create Imperial armour. However, in the achievement section it doesn't consider it unlocked. Just wondered why we need to find or buy the motif when we bought the upgrade?

Probably to make it on par with other's who earn the Achievement through Farming. Otherwise, you would just be buying the Achievement. They even had to patch in the ability to read the book if you were an Imperial.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yeah you gain the ability to play AS an Imperial and whichever Race you are you can craft that style at default but must learn the other 9. You also gain the ability to convert items to Imperial style.

Technically, the "Imperial Edition" of the game does NOT actually unlock the ability to create Imperial armor.

It unlocks the ability to create an Imperial character, who can then craft Imperial armor by default (since each race starts with the ability to craft armor for their own race). In this case, it will unlock the achievement on that character, since any Imperial character will technically know the Imperial motif by default.

It also unlocks the ability to change the style of existing armor to Imperial on any character, but this creates a special account-bound version of the armor, which isn't the same thing as directly crafting Imperial armor in the first place, and therefore doesn't give you the achievement, since you'd still need to learn the Imperial motif to craft real Imperial armor from scratch.

I think Nestor was mistakenly thinking you were asking about the "Imperial Motif" that can be purchased in the crown store, which is very different from the "Imperial Edition" of the game. And for the record, the crown store version of the Imperial Motif does indeed give you the achievement for knowing it on whichever character you use it on.

The Achievement is updated when you read the Motif, that is the only way to unlock that Achievement

You know, playing this game since Launch, I have still not found one of these Motifs, I had to buy the two I used from Guild Stores. Well, I found one in the first week back when they dropped like candy.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
