Not 100% certain but I'm sure the chemists and doctors who actually dressed like this would have worn proper gloves no?
As a personal preference I would have preferred it to have proper gloves not fingerless ones.

And also, why does the dark brotherhood black robe have a half face mask? I haven't earned it yet so I kinda hope hide helmet might get rid of it but keep the hood.
So it looks like a genuine dark brotherhood black robe (hence why the speaker doesn't have it)

I think the hide helmet loses the hood too

Can confirm, you lose the hood.

They definitely should have full gloves, they work with deadly toxins and poisons. You guys remember monkshood from Oblivion? That stuff is terrifying IRL, you touch the leaves with bare skin and you can die very quickly. Imagine what other horrors alchemists work with in ESO.

And seriously, google monkshood/wolfs bane. Nightmare fuel from a beautiful flower.

As a khajiit I hadn't realized that they're just always fingerless. I thought it was just because of my claws.

When working with poisons it is most advantageous to have full dexterity and fine manipulation that gloves would interfere with. The fingerless gloves allows a toxin crafter the fine manipulation one needs to work with these delicate ingredients. In order to keep from poisoning oneself through skin contact, a special oil based salve is applied to the exposed fingers which acts as a barrier between the toxin and the crafters skin.

It's kind of a moot point since you can't actually poison yourself in the game with poisons.

The plague doctors who actually dressed like this thought the contagion causing the plague was airborne. That's why the 'beak' of the mask had antidotes and aromatics in it. ESO does a bit of a reversal, making the wearer a weapon maker, not a healer. But you could definitely use the costume as a healer in the spirit of the original.

There's not really anything that dangerous in the poison-making table, though. Alkahest doesn't even exist, due to the requirement that it dissolve everything. Alkahest in a container isn't really Alkahest. I do agree that dexterity is more important here for safety. If you get a highly corrosive toxin on your gloves it's probably going to eat right through to your skin anyway.
