I just saw this. I missed Matt Fior's announcement on BE3 last week because I was travelling. I was reading through the news this afternoon and I got to this and ... wow.

I have wanted this for SOOO long. Really. I must have posted a half-dozen times on the forums for this. People told me it was NEVER going to happen. I started to believe it myself. This is the number one thing I wanted from the game. Number One.

Everyone at Zenimax: @ZOS_GinaBruno; @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_AlanG and anyone else who will listen: Thank you. Thank you. I'm thrilled to see Caldwell's Silver and Gold go, go, go ... bye, bye. This will make leveling SO MUCH BETTER. And exploration. But mostly, it will make the game feel like an Elder Scrolls game for me.

Thank you. I really can't say it enough. This is the one thing I really, really wanted. Thank you. You have my sub for a long, long time.

I'm approaching it with enthusiastic caution... there have been quite a few instances of disconnect previously- for example "Any Race, Any Alliance".

I'm also glad to see the Cadwell's Silver/Gold thing go away- I'm more interested to see what they're actually bringing in to replace it for higher level content, as opposed to "lather, rinse, repeat". I've seen a lot of speculation regarding auto-adjusted content (zones/mobs that adjust to your level) but haven't really seen any viable details regarding what that would be yet.

This means they're either going to have to make the game more linear by shoehorning people into new zones, or introducing new content for higher levels to engage in.

Personally, I'm entertaining the hope they've been very busy in the background creating all the other provinces that tie the three Alliances together so we can finally have all of Tamriel to explore, or at least expanding the existing zones. Remember how much content was in Daggerfall opposed to Skyrim, for example? (a ton more locations, towns, villages, etc.)
TL;DR - If you got this far without reading the entire post you're either too lazy or suck at reading comprehension and probably don't belong in a public forum anyway. Just move along, you wouldn't understand.

I'm not seeing how the changes will make the game "more" linear. Right now I start in, say Auridon, move to Grahtwood and so on. Now I won't have to do that. I can start any character in any zone. I can group with a friend who's still in Auridon even if I'm in Reaper's March. I can create an assassin character in AD and have them kill only EP enemies.

That said, my hope would be:

"We are dropping all PvE Alliance restrictions. You will be free to explore of all Tamriel, including other Alliances. It is up to you how you want to role-play your character while doing this. “Silver" and “gold" versions of zones will be replaced by Cadwell quest storylines that you can do in any order you wish."

Does this mean new content? Because that could be fun.

Honestly, I can't see a down side to this. Maybe I'm missing something.

I meant "linear" shoehorning as in once you've out leveled the content you've no choice but to move elsewhere. It's pretty common in most games.

I'm also not seeing a "downside"- but rather a lack of detail as to what it actually means other than they're opening up the zones for people to play them. Does it mean you will be able to choose single player PvE content? Or that you'll be able to interact with other people in different alliances as well? Does it mean open world PvP as well, or just PvE? Etc.

I've got a feeling they're avoiding giving too much detail in fear they'll scare off parts of their playerbase, but it's eventually unavoidable. You can't please everyone all the time, after all.

IMO the game should have been released provinces completely open, or if they were closed it should have been released as Open World PvP. The way it was done (half and half) gave me the impression they hadn't quite decided yet, especially with how Cyrodil was handled later. We can only really speculate as to intent, since they have a history of being intentionally vague.

Anyway, as I said, enthusiastic caution is how I'm approaching any of their announcements. I've been around since they first announced the game, the beta and purchased and subbed as soon as it was available only to see this yo-yo effect with decisions and changes. I'm quite sure I'm not alone in my stance.

Um, Cadwell's is NOT... going... going... going... it's actually STAYING... STAYING... STAYING. They're making it so you can travel to the other zones, do the side quests, but from my understanding, you won't be able to do the Cadwell's specific quests (eg. main alliance story quests) without activating Cadwell's storyline... eg. Silver and Gold.

I thought he said something about battle leveling the zones so you can go where you want, be battle leveled and play with your friends no matter what level they are. Sounds to me if that was true then the only thing people would be locked out of doing would be dungeons and trials. At least I would believe the battle leveling would not be in effect inside anyways.

My interpretation was that you could go to any zone, higher or lower than you, have your stats scaled appropriately but still recieve "true level" appropriate xp and rewards. You could go to other alliances areas and vice versa, interacting with members freely, as alliance will only matter in cyrodiiil and imperial city.

The only restriction is that you can not go to coldharbour until you met the requirements by completing the main storyline. After finishing coldharbour, cadwell would have a new storyline for you to do.

My guess is that new story would help fill in the time between busting molag's balls and starting Imperial city.

Level will only really determine access to skills and gear, as well as dungeons and trials. But otherwise wherever you go, you will be appropriately challenged.

If you read what he says a bit more closely, what it seems will happen is all current zones in game are going to be made CP160, much like the DLC zones are already.

This will mean they can remove the Gold & silver versions of the alliance zones completely. From 1-49, you will be constantly battle levelled so you can do the content.

When you zone in on a new character, the 3 starter wayshrines will automatically unlock for you, so you can wayshrine to any of those zones at anytime you wish. You can then adventure through, or travel to friends and guild members to unlock more of the wayshrines. It won't matter where you go in game, ALL content will be cp160, but the crafting nodes will always be levelled to you.

The Alliance you choose when starting out will only be in effect during PvP in Cyrodiil. Outside of Cyrodiil, you won't be able to tell who's in what alliance unless you hover over the character and look at the pvp icon colour next to their name.

As I said in my original post, Caldwell's Gold and Silver are going away. At least, that's how I interpret the word "replaced." If they are replaced, then there is literally NOTHING to activate.

So what is the source of your "understanding"? And I really want to know because if you're right, then this change makes no sense really. Why would they do this? Open up all the zones but STILL have you do Caldwell's Gold and Silver at the end? So you would be doing side quests that relate to main quests you can't do???

I understood it the same way Irish and others did: that Silver and Gold will go away and something different will take its place. Any clarification @ZOS_JessicaFolsom? Anyone?
