Hey all,
After seeing so make hate for the way the loot system works (especially for Monster items and Set pieces) I figured I would share something I have been kicking around for a little bit.
The root cause of the problem for people being unhappy is "dumb traits". It is difficult enough to get the item, but then having to pray for the right trait is just insult-to-injury in some cases.
What I propose is giving master craftsmen the ability to sell what I would call "customization kits".
Allow Blacksmiths/Clothers/Woodworkers (and in the future, Jewlers) the ability to create an item much the way Enchants work today.
The master crafter would take raw materials, a temper perhaps and a trait stone to make a customization kit. The interface would work similar to Enchants, accessed by right-clicking the item and saying "Apply Customization Kit" (or whatever you want to call it).
This removes the fear of having an item/materials stolen by an unscrupulous person, and allows people to purchase via Guild Traders on a whim.
This also allows people to recustomize their gear on-the-fly if they need to swap roles, and use a gear set that allows for you to do so.
Anyways, I am sure this will attract some hate, but I am trying to work within confines for game mechanics and offer benefits to all sides involved. Let me know what you think!
