Reinstalling/Redownloading the game query

I haven't played the game in over a year it seems. I tried to log on on recently and found that I had to update. Naturally.
Only I tried and even though I know I have downloaded several gig so far, it keeps installing patches and then begins downloading another and my overall progress has remained at 1% for almost 12 hours. If 20 gig is only 1% of my progress, holy beans.
My question is if I should uninstall the game, and then redownload it, would I be getting the latest version of the game right off the bat or would I still have to download and install 2 years worth of separate enormous patches?
