What I hope player housing is not.

Just wanted to say I hope player housing will not be a replacement for the activities people do in cities (crafting, guild banking, selling junk). My fear is that would cause big drops in population in major cities and make the game world feel empty.

I sincerely hope that they take the opportunity to get rid of zero-dark-thirty Guild Trader bidding and just let guilds permanently hire a Trader at their Guild Houses.

That could be neat, but you're presuming that Guild houses are not instanced and limited in number then yes? Because I feel like that is just going to leave people out in the long run

it depends on whether they go the "Instanced Neighborhood" route, or the "Single Building with the Interior instanced for each Guild" route.

I hope it is the former. the latter would suck, imo.

Yeah that could be interesting, however instancing seems like it would make it hard for non guild members to access your guild trader at that point as they would have to somehow select an instance to travel to even if it is a neighborhood.

Most of my questions are about how it will work with phasing. If everyone playing had a house we would fill every land from border to border and still not have enough, so obviously they must instance those houses. But then can you visit my house? Can we both have houses in the same location but different phases? Will I see a lot of other people apparently going into my house?

It will be interesting to see how they work all this out.

I really hope they don't go the instanced neighbourhood route. I keep thinking of LOTRO, those neighbourhoods are ghost towns. Put phased housing in the middle of city centres so there's always life to them.

So if we can customize the outside, AND if it's all phased, will the house next to mine look different next time I log on? This could get weird.

How about an item in your inventory you can use to open a portal to your own personal space, like a pocket dimension of oblivion?
