Hello all! I just wanted to know what would be the best for me to use for my stam sorc? some people say undaunted mettle is better and others say full med is better, anyone know?

It all depends on what you want for your build. Both groups of players are right cos its all very subjective and both perfectly viable. Let me list out some of the pros and cons so you can decide for youself! @arcadiadark

Note: the exact numbers might be mistaken but the concept still holds true. Do check in game for accurate numbers.

    For 5/1/1
    1. 6% bonus stats.
    2. For 1 piece light : 3 % mag cost reduction, 4% mag rec, Increased spell resist
    3. For heavy armour 1 piece: , increases resists, 4% health recovery + constitution, 2% max health, Increased healing and more resource returned on heavy attacks

    For full medium
    1. 2% bonus stats
    2. More crit, about 600 rating I believe (think it translates into about 3%.. Can't rmb exactly though)
    3. 8% more stam rec, 6% more cost reduction for stam
    4. Reduced cost of sneak by 8% + 6 % smaller det radius

For PvE, Id say 7 medium is the way to go. Don't need too much utility as stam DPS in PVE. You just want to focus on full QQ damage. Unless you are under 200CP and desperately need the extra health to make the 18k mark. Below that is dangerous to run unless you are very experienced especially as a melee DPS.

For PvP, you might need the health and utility for mag cost reduction etc etc. So 5/1/1 really helps. Personally I run 5/1/1 in PvP as an imperial stam DK support tank.

Basically I believe the undaunted mettle is there to make up for the monster pieces you find that are trolling you by not dropping in the appropriate weight. Other than that, 5/1/1 is really nice in PvP. The other thing is, I LOVE the way heavy armour looks so I tend to run heavy chests even though it may not be the most optimal piece of armour to have on lol. X.X

I prefer 7 Medium for Stam Sorc, unless you are running a max stat build.

Sometimes I go 6/1 with 1 heavy if I can't get a helm or shoulder.

The stam cost reduction, regen, sprint speed make up for the 4% more stats.

^This. @Vangy has the correct answer. Anyone who tells you that full medium is the best is wrong. Anyone who tells you that 5-pieces of medium and 1 each of light and heavy is the best is wrong. Anyone who tells you that 6 medium and 1 heavy is the best is wrong. The correct answer is that it depends on your build and your play style.

I usually prefer 5 medium, 1 light, and 1 heavy, but for some setups I prefer 7 medium, and for some 5 medium and 2 heavy, and for some 6 medium and 1 heavy.

For PvE, 7 medium is better. Between Precise Strikes star, Rearming Trap, and War Horn rotations, you can get critical attacks averaging more than double non-crits. Which makes the extra 3% crit from 7 medium better than the extra 4% stam from 5/1/1. In the current meta, top-notch DPS relies highly on critting as much as possible.

But this is really only for squeezing every last bit of DPS out of a character when trying to meet the DPS checks in Vet Maw of Lorkhaj or Vet Sanctum of Ophidia. It is not a big difference at all in DPS between 7 medium and 5/1/1. But every little bit counts in the hardest content.

For 99% of the game content, both 7/0/0 and 5/1/1 will be fine. 5/1/1 does give you 6% more health and higher armor/spell resist. Which is often more useful when playing casually or just starting out. Dead men do no DPS.

The real question here is ,, Is it better to have 4% more stamina or 3% more wep crit?" , because this is the difference in offensive between 5/1/1 and full medium. Imo there is many things deciding what is better but most important things are Your max stamina number, Your wep crit value and mundus You're using.

      I''ve always preferred 7/7 medium.

you lose 4% less stats for more crit%, reduce costs, increased regen, dodge roll reduction.

go 7 medium for pvp it helps a lot for dodge roll and sprint and sustain

if you ask for pve then u should go for %6 and dont think its %6 increase its actually %4 you get %2 for wearing full medium

I'd recommend 5/1/1 even for PvE since as a stamina build you're going to be in melee range all the time which is more dangerous. When you're dead, you do no damage and added tankiness from 5/1/1 is noticeable. Imo it also helps with sustain since being tankier allows you block less, especially in aoe situations.

How exactly are you more tanky in 5/1/1 than 7 medium.

I believe that would be the 6% more health (4% Undaunted Mettle + 2% Heavy Armor Passive)

Armor would be roughly equal though

As long as you do it the right way (ie. the heavy piece is the chest and the light piece is the waist) you also get quite significantly more resistance in 5/1/1 than in 7 medium. Armour isn't equal - in a 7 medium setup in all gold CP160 gear you're looking at 11,199 base physical & spell resistance (assuming no reinforced, no set bonuses to resistance, no champion points increasing it, but you've got all relevant armour passives), while in a 5/1/1 setup you're looking at 11,991 base physical & 12,354 spell resistance.

So it's not just more health - you also have more physical resistance and more spell resistance.

You also get 8% more stamina recovery and 6% stamina cost reduction by going 7 medium instead of 5-1-1. This for me tips the balance in favor of 7 medium.

For magicka DPS, I would definitely go 5-1-1 because you don't get additionnel spell criticals by going 7 light.

I actually use 5 medium and 2 heavy on my stamplar. Being a healer on my main for so long, I see value in a DPS that can take a hit or two. It provides enough from medium passives and a bit of regen and survival from the heavy. Magicka bonuses would be useless on this character, so I didn't grab any light. All I lose is 2% stats, but the extra heavy makes up for that.

My Stam DK, NB and Templar are 7 MED ( full med )

However my Stam DK is often switching between 7 of 1 type ( be that heavy OR med ) to 5 - 1 - 1 ( depends on my goal at that time )

      Stam Sorc is 5 - 1 - 1 always ( well mine is )

Personally, I'd go 7 medium in PvE and gank builds in PvP
Whereas general PvP, I'd go either 5M/1L/1H or 5M/2H for the extra survivability and utility.
