Oh dear, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to upset or confuse people. I thought it wasn't *that* hard to understand.

So, I'm just commenting on the kind of player housing I'd like - admittedly in a bit of a silly way.

If the housing is more like SWG, I'll be really happy (hence clapping and cake.)

If the player housing is more like LotrO, I'll be fairly disappointed (so no clapping, no cake.)

Wasn't trying to attempt a poll, merely trying to express opinion.

Hope that clears things up, and you are less upset and confused.

I never understood the fascination with player housing in themepark MMOs. In a sandbox MMO if done right (non-instanced open world with player built/run cities, castles, etc.) I get it, but in a game like ESO? Whats the point? Id rather see a few new dungeons or a zone like Wrothgar.

If I'm really honest, I sort of agree with you. Unless you can customize your in-game house, fill it with all the random rubbish you want, and get to show it off, I don't see the point either. And you could do that in SWG - for houses and for shops.

I'm not convinced ESO is going to have the capability to do that - I say that with great respect for the game, I just don't see it happening that way. Hope it does!

The LotrO housing is a prime example of pointless, utterly meh player-housing. I really hope they don't go in that direction.

Think Rift does a fairly good job, if I remember rightly?

However, I'm happy it's happening, if only because lots of players wanted it and it's good they've listened to that.

No, absolutely. I'm just expressing my hope for the kind of housing it will be. :)

i never played (only played LOTR very briefly) said games, so didnt really understand it lol, the only housing available MMO that i ever played are FF14 and Archage

and i can say that housing and guild hall system in FF14 is utterly amazing, i really hope ZoS can just blatantly copy paste that lol, or make improvement/change that they see fit into TES lore/world

I'll take Ultima Online housing please. After over 10+ years my houses STILL stand strong on Atlatic!

When I think about how popular housing is in Archeage, and you basically can just use it for storage purposes, as a guild hall and it comes with some farming area as well. Still, it is highly popular, even it cannot be used to other than this - and as far as farming goes, a simple scare crow had more farming area than houses with it - still, people were nuts about buying houses.

It is a bit of a gender thing as well - when I think about Second Life for example - men normally tend to settle down, when they got a partner, but rarely before that time, while women tend to have one or more homes even if they do not have a partner. This seems to me like "built-in" in us women, to care for a home.

Yeah, I am with you with that, Sausage - I expect for example usable furniture, without it, I do not need a house. And I want to be able to customize it in many ways, and make it really my own. I did not buy a house in Archeage, because it had too less ways to customize it.

I think that if game does housing right, it can add considerably to the longevity of a game for many players. Perhaps it may not appeal to the min/maxers but it can appeal to many players that love things that don't necessarily have a combat focus. Think of housing as a hobby system where you can go to play and be creative! I do agree about LoTRO's housing system comment made earlier. Although my neighborhood and cottage were lovely, housing didn't pull me in as much as it has in other games. I found it fairly lackluster and mostly as a place for added storage.

A few examples of games I played where housing (in my opinion of course) was great:

EQ2: Even though instanced, the amount of customization and fun things to do was pretty great. I loved the ability to visit NPC vendors in houses and see what much more creative minds were able to do. I loved how the crafting system dovetailed into what you could make for your house. I had a carpenter who just made things for my house and to put on the marketplace. I had so much fun with EQ2 and spent quite a bit of time on my house. The ability to visit and rate other dwelling was nice (also liked that about Rift).

Wildstar: Not my cup of tea in a game. Didn't care for the graphics nor sci-fi theme at all. I knew my time would be short there but I did give it a whirl---just to see the housing in fact. Great system. I knew many players that were sticking around just to play the housing game. It was functional, fun and gosh you could sink months and months into your plot of land. Even my combat focused guildmates would spend considerable time on their plots. Anything from space port themes to high fantasy floating palaces. Truly fantastic in every way. It's a shame that this game isn't doing that great because it did have some good ideas, housing being a highpoint.

I wish that I had spent more time in SWG. I was still a relatively new MMO player at the time and didn't give it enough of a chance. Plus I prefer my elves and dwarves over space ships and light sabers. My loss.

Fingers crossed that we will see something spectacular and fantastic. I suppose the worst may be a boring hook system where you decorate once and don't visit again. Honestly I would be very disappointed. Or at best, it could be something really neat like Wildstar. I'm a subscriber and really haven't spent many crowns. If housing were introduced with a great mix of crafted, treasure or crown store items, I would be quite happy. And spend crowns!

I agree with the OP. There could possibly be a third option that would be really good. I've had a few ideas how they could go about it. I'd love to see us having the opportunity to build homesteads among the stars as well as on Nirn. Guild halls would be fantastic as well, on the level of Eyevea or such. In my Guild Hall idea, players could add their estate on a 'Guild City'. While I'd love it to be open world, I don't know if this is something ZoS will be able to realistically handle, so I'm not holding my breath there.

I just don't want the landscape dotted with player housing everywhere I go.

I love housing but I believe it should either be instanced or on it's own plane of oblivion somehow.

I agree. I felt the same way when SWTOR added housing. Taking the time here and devoting it to PvP alone would be a great idea. SWG towns and housing was great, but I don't see that happening here.

Funny, cause I found Guild Halls to be utterly useless during the time I was playing FF14, unless something changed from Heavensword onward that I don't know of. I mean, the house looked nice and you could decorate it and even get XP booster for grinding stuff but honestly the thing I look for in housing in MMOs is storage space and I sadly did not get that in FF14.

Wouldn't mind a place to put all my trophies..other than that storage doesn't seem to be that big of a deal now. However if done like SWG, then that would be spectacular!
