I've been trying to figure out PVP in this game for awhile now but it still makes no sense. It's like weapon/spell damage is all that matters and your resistances mean diddly squat. I'm a DK tank and in Cyrodil I have 40k health 32k stamina 10k magicka and 2750 weapon damage and 370 champion points and 34k spell resistance and 30k physical resistance while I have a stam/health food on. I'm getting completely trashed by even like level 38's that don't even have champion points! I know my weapon damage is low compared to dps builds that have like 4K+ but come on my insane amount of health and stamina/ resistances have to stand for something...right? When I hit people with a rally-wrecking blow-dragon leap combo their health barely moves but I get hit with like a heavy attack from a fire staff and my health falls a generous amount. I'm running engine guardian and some mixed matched stamina and weapon damage sets aswell. Like I know some of these nightblades and sorcerers have like 12k physical resistances so why is it that I can't even make a dent in these people 1v1? I wouldn't consider myself a "noob" by no means I actually know what I am doing as far as rotations for my class in pvp and all the mechanics I'm just not understanding why my attacks seem to do nothing. I also have 600 critical resistance and I'm in the ebonheart pact (which is just another downside lol)

Shield stacking. You can't crit a shield and everyone spams one or two in PVP. Also, most people have resistance penalties on their weapons and/or skill sets. Sustain is also quite important to keep those shields up and to cast other skills.

a level 38 doesn't have 2750 weapon damage, they have 2000 or less
they'll probably have close the same stamina as you (maybe a bit more) but 0 tank stats (talking about stam nb/dk as dps spec at level 38)

It is worth noting that level 38 can also have 501 CP, and you have no way of knowing if they have 501 CP since it doesn't tell you, so you can't claim they are level 38 with 0 CP.

Overall though, tanking in PVP is hard; but if you ever lose to a level 38 that you have more than every single stat in the game of, you really need to L2P no grey area required.

If you're in the non-vet campaign though CPs are irrelevant as it disables them.

Common misconception. There are a lot of lower level players in PvP that also have VR characters and thus CP points.

There are some remedies for shield stacking spammers --

    1. Buy the Shield Breaker armor set in Imperial City (you can purchase with tel var stones at the tel var vendor).

    2. Put champion points into the Shattering Blows (Atronach constellation). That is assuming you're in a non-CP disabled campaign (Blackwater Blade is CP disabled ... so champ points don't apply).

    3. Use poisons that drain their magicka.

You talked about your magic and physical resistance ... what is your crit resistance at? There are a lot of crit builds running around Cyrodiil ...

@Katyprairie one stat I didn't see you discuss in your post is what your critical resistance is. Critical resistance is hugely important in ESO PVP. Everything in terms of high damage output in this game is achieved through maximizing critical damage and the frequency of critical strikes. This applies more in PVE but it allows for people to roll into PVP with their high crit build that melt those PVE bosses and also melt you.
Craft yourself a set of basic CP 150 gear with the impenetrable trait (I say CP 150 because it's cheaper and will give you a glimpse at how important it is). You'll notice a huge difference I suspect in terms of your survivability.

Yeah they do, you can use them as soon as you make a character.

By the way there are some DKs that are quite skilled and successful in PvP ... including our raid leader (signature below) and the raid leader of K-Hole (both guilds are DC Alliance).

    So, don't lose hope.

Best suggestion is to browse the PvP forums, check out build templates, get feedback from fellow guildies, and do your own theorycrafting and testing in Cyrodiil.
