Is it limited or for however long you want them hanging around? If you read my "Squires" thread then you know why I'm asking

I believe they remain until unsummoned, but I don't think they follow you

When you zone you have to resummon them. Otherwise they basically act like a pet.

Save your money Cazzy they only preform basic options the merchant can't even repair gear or sell kits. I guess the banker may be worth it depending on how much you hate traveling but in PvE you can't even sneeze without hitting a real merchant

They do not, but the merchant can't sell you gear or repair your own, an the banker can't access guild banks or stores.

    They're pretty much pets.

What I want to know is if you have one out and I have one out... do they look exactly the same.

If so... how does that make any sense at all?

I still think my summonable beast merchants concept was more sound than what they did. To me the merchants are proof that ZOS either doesn't read the forums or they deliberately try to avoid making content similar to what has been suggested. If THAT'S the case then they should have told us that at some point so we wouldn't pigeonhole them.

anyway... my concept from here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/149698/summonable-beast-merchants-and-banker-concept/p1

Note this was from February 2015. A full year before assistants were added.

The idea of beast merchants isn't anything new to the Elder Scrolls. Morrowind has both the Mudcrab Merchant and the Creeper. The Crown Store could sell items that would allow players to summon these beast merchants while out and about.

Each item should be a one time use consumable item that should be sold through the Crown Store and obtainable once through in-game questing. The player could even be required to complete the quests before they can buy the Summoning Items from the Crown Store.

Mudbrab Merchant Bait: One time use. Players pull out some crumbs, scatter them on the ground and the Mudcrab crawls out of the ground, ready to buy, sell, or repair!

Creeper Effigy: One time use. Players pull out a little scamp effigy and burn it. The Creeper merchant appears out of thin air through a puff of smoke, ready to buy or launder your stolen items.

Goblin Banker Coin: One time use. Players pull out a coin purse, retrieves one gold coin and toss it into the air in front of them. A well dressed Goblin (well, for a goblin anyway) riding a Bristleback trots up. Behind the Goblin, on the back of the boar, is a lockbox while various bags and satchels hang down its side. The Goblin is there for you to access your personal bank only.

NOTE: I find it funny that when I was looking for "Goblin Banker" images I discovered there are goblin bankers in WoW. I don't think this means ESO can't have a goblin banker also.

These would be very useful items that many players would be grateful to be able to have with them.

I even suggested that ESO+ members get access to these beast merchants (with cooldowns)

Beast merchants that use consumable merchants would have been better for everyone
    • Better for the player because they would have not cost so damn much at once so they would be more accessible. Sticker Shock is real people!
    • Better for ZOS because it would have been a sustainable, regular revenue source. A player who likes these guys would have spent more than 5000 crowns over the life of the game to summon them.
    • Better for the LORE because everyone summoning a mudcrab or creeper or goblin is ok, but everyone summoning one very specific individual assistant makes no sense in the context of the narrative of the game.

Oh well... I guess quarterly earnings are more important than anything else with this game.

Sorry. I didn't mean to try to jack your thread.

Back on topic: I also think some of the assistants (like merchant) can be used by others, if I'm not mistaken.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

Yes, they look exactly the same and have the same name. No, it does not make sense.

I don't mind them looking alike, even though I think there should be a place holder like there is with quest NPCs(if Raz is following you and another player has Raz following them you will each only see your Raz and a no name NPC following the other person). I would like them to let us change our assistants name though and possibly let us use polymorphs/costumes on them.

You can use other peoples assistants if you are in their group. You could use anyone's at first but that was unintended and fixed. I own the banker, but if I don't have mine out and someone I am not grouped with has theirs out I cannot use theirs.

They do follow us like pets, though they will walk a few meters away occasionally. Which really sucks when you are using him and he moves, kicking you out of the bank.

I don't own the merchant, but I have been told he will repair items if you have an addon that automatically does that when you visit merchants. Not sure if this has been fixed since then or not.
