Quick Question

Totally not trolling, just generally curious. I see many folks requesting a spellcrafting feature be added to ESO. My question is this; what would this constitute exactly? How would it work? I am a long time ES player so I understand it in principle, but am having trouble envisioning it in an mmo setting. Wouldn't it technically just be adding a few new skills and morphs? Surely it couldn't be anything so in depth that a few smart folks would be able to come up with an op combo and keep it a secret. Again, wouldn't there just be a finite number of outcomes and we'd all just pick the best morph for our build? Basically the same as it is now with skill morphs. I suppose I also feel like in an mmo environment, for the sake of balance, all spellcrafting outcomes would pretty much end in a similar fasion, regardless of the path you took to get there. Discuss!

In terms of ESO, the devs said they were working on it probably around a year ago or something like that. Then there were some staff changes, and then we were told it wasn't going to happen.

I agree, although it sounds like great fun, it was probably proving a complete headache to balance.

Epona was a Romano-Celtic goddess dating back to around 1800 to 2000 years before computer games were invented.

Yea I just can't fathom it I guess. We all remember the power we held with this in Morrowind and Oblivion to a lesser extent. Just seems like to satisfy the mmo constraints, it would basically just be watered down to adding a few new skills/morphs.

Think of crafting a skill basically.

Not sure how else to share it as we never saw much of what ZOS was going to release but there are plenty of threads about it and feedback on it.

I understand it would be a skill. I guess my hang up is how would it be any different than them adding a few balanced skills and morphs, due to the constraints of mmo balance. For example, you and I are dps so we follow the prompts to both end with the new dps skill. The tank and healer take the other outcome. There would be no way to differentiate the additives for said skill for fear of it becoming op for dk's as opposed to lackluster for everyone else. So in essence, a few skills were added. We didn't craft anything.

I think that is a GREAT observation and question.

Here is ... my guess .....also why I believe the project was cancelled because as you ask...if the development creates a way for us to somehow "craft" new skills even with strict limitations, its going to create imbalances.

The skills today don't all work as the tool-tips say or what one dev may say that contradicts with what a tool-tip says so in the end.....you began to see requests on the status of spell crafting as well as requests for a new class or more morph options.

I think you're all over it. Especially your last bit there.

The balance in this game is bad enough as is, spell crafting as it was originally intended based on what we saw at Quakecon 2014 would be a terrible addition and should never be added.
