A Dye & Texture Issue

One of the main problems I find with the Dye System (aside from the lack of good colors in general) is that there are wildly different "textures" on all the armors so colors look COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from one set/motif to another. Now I expect there to be different textures on metal, leather and cloth. But there are countless textures within each category that are completely different from each other. At first glance this seems like a good thing. We all like variety, right? But the problem is that this actually results in LESS variety because we cannot mix and match things because they end up looking awful together even when we use the same dye on them. So we're stuck using a "uniform" set just to get the colors right. Boring!

Which leads me to wonder if it might not be possible to implement the ability for players to choose the TEXTURE of whatever they are dyeing as well as the color. I personally know I would KILL to be able to put the khajiit light patterned fabric on the Daedric Legs which is the ONLY skirt we have in the game but the texture of which can only be described as "hideous burlap"!

So as ZOS works on ways to give us more customization options, would you guys like to eventually see something like this implemented? Please discuss!

Also, "Fix lag in PvP!" is not a meaningful contribution to the discussion. Just sayin'.

It's because a dye on one fabric will look completely different than the same dye on a different fabric. I think this is a good thing but admit I don't spend enough time dying my stuff to really notice.

Now, as for the texture idea... I'd buy that for a dollar. Earn dyes in game. Buy textures and maybe even "embellishment patterns" in the Crown store. something like...

The problem is that when we go to create a character, change armor, dye items....there isn't one consistent view so depending on the in-game time of day and lighting, we end up with different results.

Now another interesting thing is that different materials and motif accept dyes differently on the 3 spots.
I've also had where some rare dyes will apply one way due to where I set the dye and on an alt with the same motif and material, the dye applies slightly different.

I can't explain that but...shrug...at least dyes are free to apply and remove. I do disagree with dyes making things bound tho, just reset the colors to default on trade.

Oh hell yeah! LOL And yes, I'd totally pay crowns to acquire textures I could apply to anything, thus allowing me to achieve uniformity on dyes.

Yes, I also have similar problem with dyes. Every time when making new set, I have to juggle the styles or the colors, just to make the gear look the way I want. I don't really see the point of "different dyes on different fabrics should look different". No they don't. First of all it's a video game - they could make it whatever they want. If you want different fabrics, we already have different textures, that make heavy armor, shiny for example, and light armor matte. But it doesn't have to make the color different. Shininess does not change the color.

The thing is that even in the context of only one type of armor, one color would look different on different heavy armor styles. I once made a Mercenary heavy chest and Outlaw heavy chest. Dyed them both in black and red. The red on the Outlaw chest was very deep and prominent. But the mercenary armor was actually pink and washed out. There is no reason for it. Not to mention the different appearance of dyes on different spots of the same armor piece, as NewBlacksmurf said.

Another thing that got me baffled was, when I made my first v16 (at that time) legendary armor, I wanted to make a light sash in the Breton style. However, I had a Soul-shriven style material in my inventory at that moment, and because they look identical, I just went and made v16 soul shriven sash and upgraded it to legendary. To my extreme surprise, when I went to the dye station, I found out that the soul shriven sash (or maybe any soul shriven belt) cannot be dyed. I mean, what is up with that? It looks exactly the same as the Breton one. And it also had some really weird color combination as the default. Was forced to make another one.

Honestly I'm slightly less worried about the texture and more worried about the different ways the materials dye. Just look at Khajiit Medium Chest. You can dye it every single color in game except white. It looks good black, yellow, red, green, blue, all the shades of purple, etc, but as soon as you but any of the white dyes on it's like "WELL GEE I HOPE YOU LIKE FIELDS OF BROWN". It turns out I don't like that, except for when I dye it brown on purpose.

Similarly, I take issue that different styles dye differently with no way to alter it for the better. Trinimac, Daedric, Khajiit, all of these dye differently even in the same armor type. All the different ways they dye would be individually useful, but because it's locked in on a per-style basis we can't do anything with it! Heaven forbid you try to mix and match styles, apparently.

Glass is by far the worst.

Try making a Glass shield look good...

The best colour to use on them is either a blue ( which CAN'T fit with any of my styles ) or a black, which just makes it a dark grey-green colour...

You can't make the glass yellow / gold, red, ect.

Funny because I thought glass was easy to colour considering all the divines churches have lead glass windows...

That's exactly what I'm talking about. The "texture" of each piece is what causes it to dye differently. We, as players, need to have control over that.
