Can someone explain the new champion system ? I'm really confused

fxeconomisteb17_ESO
I don't get it anymore after VR were removed... I don't even know what's my own CP level as I don't see on the character page. If I look at the champion system, I have about 62-63 points per constellation... Does that mean something like a CP62 ? Is that CP 160 the top (sure, VR 16 was the top, but how does that link now to the CP) ? But we have 120 points per constellation, not 160... And what am I supposed to understand when I see a player with 501 ? ...

A very broad question. Can you narrow it down? What don't you understand?

501 is the most you can spend (167x3). You Cp rank is the total number of points that you have. 62 in each the mage, thief, and warrior would be champion rank 186. Content is capped at 160.

You should be able to see your accumulated Champion Points in several places, such as the Character List screen, your Character's in-game main menu, and it's also listed if you go into Menu/Character and then scroll down to Character Description I believe.

Veteran Level have been replaced by Champion Points. Every Veteran Level is equal to 10 Points. Vet1 is now CP10. Vet2 is now CP20 and so on, making Vet16 equal to CP160. CP160 is the max level gear you can use such as weapons and armor, however the total number of Points you can use on your character is 501. This is the max number of points you can earn and allocate to your Constellations. So when you see a player with CP501 next to their name, that means they've reached the cap and have slotted 501 points into their Constellations.

For example, I've earned 376 points so far on my account, so my character is CP376.

In the Character Menu go to Description. It also tells you how much XP until your next CP there.

You should see in the top left on the character sheet your total CP, and the progress bar till the next one.

Old VR = CP times 10. VR16 = CP 160. This is the current gear cap. All characters you have at level 50 share the same CP rank.

The most CP you can currently apply is 501. The new nameplates shows how much CP someone has, but only up to this cap.

You do not have 62-63 per constellation, which would put you over cap at 558, but 62-63 per branch. Times three, your CP rank is 187-188.
(You can put a max of 100 per star, without the cap this would mean 400 max per constellation. Currently you can only put a max of 167 CP across 3 constellations in each of the red, blue and green branches.)

What this means, you can use max level gear (160) on any character as soon as they hit lvl 50 and people will see 187 or 188 as your CP rank on those characters.

It's there, iirc it's called "champion rank".

Thanks! I'll check that in the morning after I log in. So as I understand, there are two parallel CP systems:
    - the account CP, displayed near character's name (as in 501 pts). So technically I could have a brand new toon with 501 pts displayed nearby.
    - the toon CP, which is it's former VR level. Mine was about VR 6 (i'm about mid Cadwell's silver, trying to cope with AD boredom). This is also consistent with having about 60 pts per constellation. I shouldn't be CP 180...
The toon CP is the one that matters in relation to the items. An item should be forbidden to mount if the toon CP is below. Am I right ?

Short response. The CP thing doesn't really make sense in the way your asking but it's O K if it's confusing or just looks odd

Your CP level determines what you can wear and use and is seen on the character sheet or in the description section. It means nothing when facing another NPC with CPs
    ZOS thinks that VR1 = 10 CPs
ZOS thinks it helps to show players CP level up to 501 but that doesn't represent how anyone has used or not used their CPs

Not quite. CP is account wide. If you had VR 6, but have more than 180 CP on your account, that toon can now use what was VR 16 gear before, (now considered CP 160 gear).

Some ...many months ago, I was advised to do Orsinium content and last mission for Mages and Fighters Guild after I finish Caldwell's gold. I guess that's no longer valid, right? The staff I should get in the last mission for Mages Guild should be CP160 right?

    No
    The game wasn't actually updated
It'll be a max of CP140 as its been over a year since this was updated. Don't do those quests yet. Wait to One Tamriel update

May be as low as CP100 but I recall it being higher just before I moved to Xbox one but no mention of changes yet.

501 is top allowed cp to spend. cp 160 is top lvl gear that can be made. thus the difference between a v160 and a v501 character is not a large gap. basically the difference is a v501 would have 100 points into say thaumaturge and 67 into another mage tree vs 53 a 160 would have. this would equate to about 10% more damage from thaumaturge, maybe 15% higher max resources over the 160
