I made a thread like this before, but I didn't get much help. So can you guys tell me what headset you use for Xbox ONE/PS4?
I'm considering the Astros A50, turtle beach elite 800. Money isn't a factor. (Wedding/Real Estate photographer)

I think the lack of responses may be due to headsets really being a personal preference.

Lots of choices but in the end it has to work just for you.
I've had 6 different types since 2013 and just brought another and then returned it a day later.

What I think you want to consider is
1. Comfort
2. Realiability / compatability
3. Clarity (sound and mic)
4. Wired or wireless
5. Rechargeable or not or N/A

Astro A40s baby! Had a cheap pair of turtle beaches before that, wasn't bad, until one of my kids sat on it.

Hey funny i was in your same position and after months of research , 5-6 months ago i traded my old xbone and went with elite ( that elite controller damm love it ) i got elite 800 turtle beach as well at the same time

however i will give you honest opinion

Bad

1) If you don't put them on properly your ears can hurt a bit
2) buttons on side are VERY SENSITIVE so you need to be aware of it
3) changing presets you hear a voice prompt up so it cuts out the sound for those few sec its good but also can be bad as you will not hear people talking or sound while you hear the voice saying " movie mode" ect
4) only one optical input .... so i had connect and d/c when using tv optical out or xbox optical out ( going to get Optical Splitter 2 in 1 out )
5) IF you have noise cancellation on you will not be able to hear your own voice in the headphones so your voice might get louder however if the noise cancellation is off you wil hear your self as well which is what most headphones don't have

6)When you press the Mic Mute button on the Elite 800X headset, you will hear two tones instead of a voice prompt. If you hear two ascending tones mice is on if you hear desending tone mic is off

For the above this is good and bad i suppose... good because if they had voice promp it would cut out the sound bad u will need to get used to the tones to make sure your mic is off


Good
1) Wireless !!!!!!!!!!!!
2) chargeable!!!!!!!!!! and they gave magnetic dock and its nice to hear " Charging Batteries" when you put them inside dock
3) they just keep on going i have to admit i start playing eso from 9 pm till 4 am no problem and this is with noise cancellation on and Bluetooth
4) noise cancellation ohh yhea it works
5) there is nothing like trying to play VMA while you sync up elite 800 to mobile and listen to some metal !!
6) surprisingly they feel like a good solid build no problem and ive had them for 5 months now
7) taking to gf on mobile while playing eso it mutes the game mic automatic and you can say ( "ohh hey hunny im just doing nothing talking to you" ) while playing eso
9) no mic boom
10) They are custom you d/w the mobile app and get to control the headset in volume changing the presets ect
11) you can talk normally and whisper and people will hear you on the mic


So from my honest view at first i was worried they might not cup my ears or they might be small for adult male however they are damm fine ... i would not change anything about them except i miss the voice changing morph option from turtle beach that was fun the cups are really nice and fell great on your ears.

actually now when i think about i think there is setting on mobile app that you can turn volume down for the sound promp so they will not cut out the other sound i shall test it tonight


Honestly if you decide to get the elite 800 you will not regret it they are amazing just make sure you do the following save the recite of purchase as you will need to take a pic of it and attach it when you go the turtle beach website and follow the instructions once when you do you will get i believe it was 2 year warranty you get to choose 2 different face sides that you can change and you get a t-shirt shipped to you

As i said i was in the same position as you but what made me cross the line was the following .. value for the money ... meaning i get all this extra features that you can play around with and are very useful and versatile instead of just getting .......a pair of headphones.

@ForsakenSin That was an amazing review, those 800s sound actually complicated for a headset lol. What are other high end TB models you have used/recommend?

Yhea i guess they might sound a bit complicated however actually they are not that much

so on your left side you have 4 buttons

side front is on, when hold down is off also when you press it once is turns on/off the noise cancellation
side back is bluetooth on and off
down button is game volume down
up button is game volume up


on the right side you have

side front is mic off mic on
side back is changing presets (hold down for few sec and let go to change the to movie mode, music mode game mode) and when you click again it will go to presets like if you are in game more it will go then to first person shooter , racing ect)

So if you think it would be like this

music mode <---- hold down the button
Dance <--- select by pressing the button
Hip Hop <--- select by pressing the button
ect ect <--- select by pressing the button

game mode <---- hold down the button
First person shooter <--- select by pressing the button
Racing Mode <--- select by pressing the button
enhance sound mode <--- select by pressing the button

movie mode <---- hold down the button
Action <--- select by pressing the button
Drama <--- select by pressing the button
Sport <--- select by pressing the button

down button is mic volume down
up button is mic volume up

all of this can be controlled by a mobile or iphone app

im not sure about astro i know they are good as well but for me i like to be versatile and be able to use the headphones for allot more things

@ForsakenSin Yeah I totally understand. I just need the headset for gaming. My friends/family know when I am gaming, no one talks lol. do the Astros and the 500 and the 800 require the chat adapter?

For XP500 Wireless and elite 800 no adapter

for Asto A50 yhea you will get AG1 Xbox One Chat Cable so that will be connected to your controller in order to use mic

@gamerguy757 the a50s are the same as the 40s except for wireless. I love my a40s. Super clear quality and they are comfy even after 6 hour gaming sessions.

Steelseries Siberia 800s are the best quality imo.

TurtleBeach has great sound but are all plastic. Horrible quality and durability.
I've owned the Stealth 400s, Stealth 500s and the elites. Besides a few extra gimmicks, the sound quality and difference between the three is minimal.

I've also have a set of AstroA50s... but I still find myself using the Steelseries.
Better comfort, light and strong, amazing bass, amazing mids and highs.
Excellent for gaming and excellent for music too.

If you're using the newer controllers, with the 3.5m plug you shouldn't need an adapter
FYI if using the adapter the guide volume controls will be greyed out and require that you tune manually.

I do know that some third party headphones don't work as well without an adapter tho so make sure to do some research before you commit on one

New controller has a 3.5m jack



The customized one that you order online have this too with Bluetooth but the older controllers require an adapter. DO NOT BUY any without the 3.5mm plug
