How to benchmark graphic settings

Hi all,

Maybe the wrong section but this seemed more a technical issue than a gameplay issue.

I'm having random graphics problems since the DB update. I cannot keep a steady FPS. It will jump from 50 to 10 to 40 to 20 to 80 (and everywhere in between!) for no obvious reason. Last night I went down to 2 fps in PVP which made things a little tricky, to say the least, I could understand different environments causing the issue, however, I can stand in an empty barn in the middle of nowhere and it happens - happens without moving.

My graphics card is the Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X OC 2GB GDDR5 )http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=29F7BE3E-2C26-4254-8F98-D217BF99DCBC&lang=eng) and I have 8gb of ram and a quad core i3 4170 CPU. I understand the equipment I use is not the best or the latest, however, I can run GTA V in very high settings at about 50fps, Witcher 3 in very high at about 48 fps, FFXIV at 50-60 FPS and, prior to the DB patch, ESO in high at about 60 FPS (not in pvp areas - that was about 25).

For unrelated reasons, I formatted my PC last week and reinstalled everything inc my graphics drivers so these should all be up to date so I am a little puzzled.

I understand that, with my current set up, I will never get the game running on ultra at 80 FPS etc but would be nice to have a decent FPS. What makes things more puzzling is that changing the graphics settings in the games doesn't seem to help. I went through the settings options from low to ultra and there was no major improvement. On ultra I was getting about 25 fps in town (which I expect) but on the lowest setting, I was getting a rate between 20 and 28 FPS.

I use zero addons at present.

Any tips would be great please. I miss my PS4 where you could just pop the game in and you were good to go.

Thanks,
Carl

You're not the only one, friend...

I've been getting the same 20~30 fps rate since last patch, before DB I was getting 50~60 fps anywhere, except in busy towns and Cyrodiil.

My PC is an I5 4690K 3.5GHz, 16GB of ram, with a GTX 970 all updated drivers in a 64bit W7. I can run pretty much any game easily on high setting with no loss in performance, except for ESO.
They tell us to go to device manager and disable sound stuff and all that, but nothing really fix the problem, just rubber band with no real solution..

This game is poorly coded unfortunately, I was expecting this to happen to me sooner or later, but I guess this time is worse than I though, hope they get to fix it soon so the game is playable for everyone else...

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear you have the same woe.

If you, with a much better set up than me, are also having issues, then I'm going to rule out it being a local problem and being something to do with the game instead. I'm finding that not only is it making the game hard to play, it is also causing headaches due to the random speeding up and slowing down.

I tried the game on the bare min settings (I couldn't have played like that, my Amiga from the 90s looked better!!) and it was still no better.

The problem with the buy to play model is things like this do not generate any revenue. The game has so many bugs in it, but, hey who cares, just as long as people keep buying stuff from the crown store :) I guess I'll have to renew my FFXIV sub at this rate. The old staying that you get what you pay for it starting to ring very true.

@Chaquinho89 have you tried the 64bit client? Just gave that a go and, while not as good as before, it seems to be much better. Just had 60 fps in a pvp battle with high settings and shadows set to low, so with much better hardware you should be getting better results

For one, check your addons. I had one UI mod that I liked, but after switching my FPS in big battles was much improved. It went from 1 FPS or lower in the midst of a big fight to usually around ten or so (not great but playable). Second, I have noticed that the more intense the situation, the less the game even uses your graphics card. I can be alone somewhere getting 90 FPS and my card is being used about 80% but in big fights when I'm getting 10 FPS my card is barely being used. The game overloads the single core it uses on your processor and your graphics card is under utilized.

@Talyena thanks for the reply. I'm not running any addons but seem to have found the most random way to get a massive increase. When I had a good fps (60 odd ) a moment ago i noticed I had the FFXIV launcher running. I closed it and my FPS dropped by half - would have thought it would be the other way round. Anyway, I opened it again and now my fps is back up high. Very odd

Yeah.. I mainly play in the 64 bit client, have tried disabling all my addons, changed the game's priority in windows, changed the video driver's setting and all that, still keeps stuttering after 15 minutes of gameplay... Good thing that I'll be busy for the next upcoming weeks, if not I'd be pretty mad.. xD
