One Tamriel - some thoughts.

Okay, so after last night's rather underwhelming (to say the least) E3 thingy where Matt was wheeled out for all of 3 minutes, we got told that the base game mechanics are changing again to something called "One Tamriel". Okay, cool. We didn't need to hear about future content anyway.

The problem that I have with this change is that it is just more re-purposing of old content.

Now, I understand that you need to constantly bring in new players. ESO needs to constantly bring in players to survive and I understand that.

I also understand that we will still "level" albeit artificially through skill points and attribute points etc and Champion Points.

But what is the real purpose of this change? Why are there so many changes to the core base mechanics of the whole game, as there has been change after change after change to this since beta.

Now, I understand that games change and things change. Many people around this forum know me as someone who defends this game to within a ridiculous degree. And I do love the game. I really do. But this doesn't help us feel better about the future of the game. In fact, quite the opposite.

Now, I see that many here do love the change, but even from a lore perspective, why would all 3 factions be playing nicely together in their zones, and then having all out war in Cyrodiil? That makes no real sense at all.

We shall, of course, see what happens. I am guessing this is the most part of the Q3 DLC, bringing in this new massive base game change, having just gotten rid of Vet levels (another massive base game change) last DLC patch.

If this is not a part of the Q3 DLC, then ... What IS next? I am sure you guys know. A little more excitement about what is in store for the future would be nice. I get that there is Quakecon, but ... This was E3! The biggest gaming event of the year! Show your fans what is coming! Add some hype!

This is probably the first rant I have ever had here on these forums. Good lord. I do go on.

Sadly I don't think that ESO is really one of Bethesda/Zenimax's big things for E3. Their real demand is still on singeplayer sandbox games and other large IP's like Doom.

I don't see massive issues with opening all the zones but I really hope they do it right this time and not a half-arsed implementation like when they change the start island order. I'm pretty sure that's what will happen and for a long time we will have some weird illogical thing as you say.

As for the rest of content announcement they're probably going to come out with that internally for this community soon, as we're the ones who care about it not the Doom/Fallout people at E3.

Guess it's another wait and see...

I just wanted to point out that in several areas in the alliances, you fight soldiers of other alliances (AD attack north of Daggerfall, Pact attack in northern Auridon...)

Oh well, let's just say "magic" and make more expensive mounts for the Crown Store.

They way i understand it only the order you do stuff in changes... if you want it to change.

Not 100% if they make all areas max level and just scale you or they leave it as is and just scale you if you decide not to follow the current leveling order... but basically its not that much of a major change in my opinion.

PvP arenas would have been something. :pensive:

Admittedly, this won't work for everyone, but none of my characters care about the war at all. They are just sellswords, adventurers or treasure hunters for the most part, or even thieves and assassins who work for whoever pays best. Most of them don't even care for the alliance they are in.
So, for me, it makes perfect sense to be able to travel all over Tamriel. Also, Molag Bal is the real threat and the three banners war pales in comparison to that.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's one way to make it work.

Like already stated the faction system was non-existent at launch because you had Cadwells gold and silver quests that took you to those alliances.

The difference is that instead of you being there with just your faction players you can now participate with all players of the various factions in the area.

This can only mean positive things because it prevents zones from becoming gated off dead areas where only the few leveling there will be there which is now a lot smaller because of the removal of Veteran rank leveling for alts.

Point is arguing about "faction questing zones" was non-existent from this game launch and pointless.
