Did ZOS make the right decision by implementing broken gap closers?

Gap closers are clearly broken, if you didn't know this please don't participate in the poll.

Did ZOS make the right decision by pushing broken gap closers to the live version of the game before ensuring they worked properly?

Please keep in mind that this was identified and reported on the PTS a month prior to being released to the live servers.

I'd also like to encourage discussion on whether or not you feel players should be punished for using these mechanics, that the QA team deemed fit for live servers.

Cheers!

Yes, the broken gap closer mechanics are better than what we had previously.

No, they should've left the old mechanics in place until the new ones were polished and ready for release.

you need to make things witty, clever, and poignant, you're too straightfoward, you have to stuff ur biased opinion in a sublte way.

But yea, Zeni' did delay the fix on the broken Dragon Leap jumping to walls exploit for too long already, make it ground bound like critical charge was, only Teleport Strikes and it's morphs should be able to 'jump' (and only a little)

They pushed out dirt content and now were eating it up lol

Only reason i can see this was pushed out cause they wanted to make the sweet sweet doe off the DLC. That and paying a ZOS overtime to ninja away all the threads showing bad light on them lol

I definitely prefer the current situation than the one where gap closing would bug out more often than not. Though there is still weird pathing issues sometimes.

In case you missed the joke, this is about the least biased poll I've ever seen on these forums.

I didn't vote because I don't know what to think.

In order to deal with terrain-based exploits (like DK chains pulling people off of walls), ZOS did their patented "break PVE to fix PVP thing," creating all sorts of terrain-based nightmares in game. How many times have you mashed a gap-closer ability that failed, took a step in one direction, and had it work? It was bad; it was broken; it needed a fix.

Of course, what we got makes me wonder if there's no middle ground. Maybe closers are just broken, and will always either be OP or awful.

Obviously, what we have now isn't adequate, but what we had wasn't adequate, either. I'm still finding terrain-based issues with abilities when fighting on hillsides and stairs at the same time that DKs are leaping onto walls. I just... don't know.

Gap closers fire much more reliably now. They look ridiculous though.

Toppling charge should have always functioned more like this - it should be more of an leap/aerial attack than a run. It's magicka so pretty much anything goes. The stamina gap closers should path along the ground though. Just my two cents.

Its looks funny doing a crit charge and you go over a bump in the group which launches you in the air but at least it works better, well 98% of the time.

Toppling charge is still as unreliable as ever, misses the target half the time now, and throws me into load screens like in the posted video. So yeah, I like old toppling charge better.

Kinda mixed on this one. While it's nice that I can actually gab close a bit more often with toppling charge, it looks downright silly to see some people fly 5 meters off the ground.

But, I still get stuck in animation sometimes with a spear in my hand, and this is the first time I was ever able to gab close trough the map and drop to my death. This happens a lot. Kinda hilarious sometimes.

    @altemriel

They changed how gap closers function by allowing them to ignore the Z axis, so people were running through the air and onto keep walls, second floor of resource towers, and even ignoring inner postern walls by jumping to the upper level of a keep and capturing it from the inside out.

    fig2-1.gif

The charge animation is still getting stuck at times, so their fix didn't 100% rid the problem, all the while making Cyrodiil look like a joke. See the videos below for reference. ZOS may try to delete the videos claiming it shows an exploit, but it's not an exploit. They, themselves, implemented the mechanic with full knowledge of what it was doing and what could be done.

I just luv how exploiter's have to use the excuse , " ZOS put it into the game so my cheating to use it for taking keeps is not my fault".

It's just a simple fact, cheaters do cheat, and no excuse's will fix that.

Ban them and ban them forever, no lame excuse to get back into the game.

As most the people that used gap closer's to cheat, lied their butt's off to get back.

Lucky there are actually very few that did cheat.

Good bye and good luck :).

You sound like a lost cause but I'll give it a go.
Gap closers like toppling charge and critical rush should absolutely be a bannable offense if being used to take keeps from the inside out. When you have entire emp raids hopping walls and PvDooring, that's obviously wrong and should be against the TOS.

However, teleporting using a skill called teleport strike should be allowed. Leaping using a skill called Dragon Leap should be allowed. They were for the last two years. Until ZOS broke all the others. There's not even an in-game message or mail to tell people that it's now illegal. Not everyone reads a post hidden on the internet, you need something in-game to warn these players that the legal tactics they've been using for the last two years has been changed to illegal. @crowfl56

the use of skills is NOT cheating, if a player sees the skill icon lit when targeting someone (regardless if it's in cyrodiil or a PVE area) it tells the player that skill can be used at that point.

There is nothing in-game that tells a player that you cannot use skill Y in situation A in cyrodiil, the only time a player cannot use a skill is if they don't have enough resources or are not close enough to the target.

hmm, but I do not understand, when ZOS has taken the Z axis from gap closers, why did they do it like this???

Why did they take the Z axis out of the computing equation completelly? Why did they not instead add there a max value (max height) to where one can gap close???
