So RPers, why no Vamps or Werewolves?

I've seen a lot of RP guilds advertise wanting new members, but some are very insistent on restricting their members from being Vampires or Werewolves. The Vampire one I guess is an appearance issue being all pale with freaky eyes, but the werewolves can just not use their transformation while in a group setting, or is there more to it?

most good rp'ers will not comment on a character's vampirism traits because we know there are many many strains of vampire in TES, so unless given permission, most dont bring it up in rp.

    That said

some rp guilds, such as those that rp holy order's, or some such, i can see it being a valid requirement, however outside that, i suggest ignoring guilds that make a requirement to not be one or the other.

Think thats very interesting and makes a lot of sense.

In the TES world, you cannot simply be a friend with a vampire and quest together etc with them. They're unstable, thirst for blood and in general should be attacked on sight for your own safety.

I've never understood being part of the fighters guild and being a vampire haha the game shouldn'y allow you to use both skill lines tbh if lore/RP was stricter.

Each to their own though play however you like and if a guild doesnt want vampires then theres nothing you can do thats how they want to play. Join one of the million other guilds

Both Werewolves and Vampires aren't regarded in anything positive bar from maybe those who live(d) with Verandis (for vampires, that is). I think that's the biggest reason why people don't accept those to their guilds. If anything maybe you should find a guild with like minded people?

IMO if something is supposed to be a secret in RP it shouldn't be too obvious just from looking at a char. So if somebody wants to roleplay a vampire among humans (at events, in taverns, in the streets) I would just prefer it if he/she didn't turn him into a vampire in game. I feel a bit strange having to pretend I don't see it all the time.

Actually, my roleplay guild, The Jackals, is made up of mostly werewolves. And there are roleplay guilds dedicated to lycanthropy. Check out Children of Skyrim - lots of RP guilds in the Ebonhaet Pact with vampires and werewolves.

And Goldleaf also has vampires and werewolves.

Its possible they just dont want the problems that arise with this. New comers will typically ignore, or not understand the RP rules and start blatantly addressing the lycanthropy or vampirism. Or theyll beg and beg and beg to be one. It can become a bit daunting to have to deal with it as everyone wants to be one. And obviously not everyone can be one in every situation. It also causes drama when the leaderships of those packs or covens say no only for the person who was asking to feel slighted.

Sometimes its just easier to keep it out of the guild and not address it at all.

My biggest grips about people RPing Vampires and Werewolves is:
    1) from the multitude of players who want to RP vampires and werewolves only a select few actually know how to RP as said vampire or werewolf. This, being which I mean, that they demonstrate a respect for the lore surrounding not only vampires and werewolves but how vampires and werewolves are percieved by the general denizens of Tamriel.
    2) apparently a Twilight marathon had been airing at some point at my engaging ESO because an absurb amount of "RPers" want to be either a touchy-feely vampire, a touchy-feely werewolf and/or in some extreme cases a mixture of the touchy-feely two with a dash of the aspects of nerevarine and/or dragonborn for good measure.

    On a side note:
As once having been an RP guild leader I have often attempted to adapt my guild to the overall player's desires for RP.
Vampires? Sure bring them in! Werewolf? Why not we can find some chew toys! Snow Elf/Dovahkiin/Jedi? Hell I am positive we could fit that in somewhere.
Yet, in saying that, I have come to realize, as I witnessed my RP guild unravel and break, was that leniency to facilitate a player's RP desires does not necessarily translate as being beneficial to the guild overall. Structure is required.

I state this only because I disagree with @bloodenragedb14_ESO:
Avoidance of guilds because they don't allow certain types of character archetypes isn't tantamount to experience good RP, but rather adaptability from a player to set aside one's own desires to RP niche characters and explore and experience other perspectives from a setting is.
That is literally what RP is about.

There are a lot more RPing vampires and werewolves than not. I guess that it's the Twilight generation. When I was growing up, both of those were considered monsters, not romantic leads. So if you see a group that is forbidding them, know that they are following theme as set by ZOS and Bethesda for the followers of the Aedra, especially Stendarr. They are unfortunately a minority.

There's often a distinction made between being a WW or Vampire in-character versus out-of-character. Especially for WW. I mean, how would anyone know? Sometimes you have to make choices just for stat/game mechanic reasons that your character would not actually be a part of. It's good to check the specifics for whatever guild you're applying to!

The awesome part of the roleplay is that they do go out of their way to hide it. There is another guild, The Cult of Meridia, that does actively hunt both vampires and werewolves. They go out of their way to hide it.

Usually the people who play werewolves only change after a moment of intense anger or passion. They don't change their forms willy nilly nor do they consider it romantic.

While I can imagine a LOT of people can RP a werewolf or vampire successfully I can imagine a LOT of RP guilds just not wanting to deal with it as many many do not.

This is not to say that you can not RP as some super powerful vampire that everyone should bow before, but instead that all to often that is what is expected and, go figure, many people do not find that fun.

It is the same thing as people RPing Jedis in Star Wars galaxies or Deatknights in WoW. There is a certain high level of expectation built within the class that becomes exceptionally difficult to RP with (although some of the best RPers I've encountered mastered it and were a hoot to be around). On the one case you are essentially an extinct order that the government is actively exterminating along with any who help them. You can range from a mere student (Palawan) to a master in hiding, and you can bet what most people go to. Once someone declares they are a Jedi master in terms of most other RPers it's essentially "God mode" which is no fun. Same with Deatknights. They are abhorred by most people, they are absolutely dead (so hard to blend in smelling like a rotten corpse) and are, by lore old heroes of their race. Once again, inherent Godmode.

As I said, some people CAN RP that fine and are fun to be around, but most simply do not. Same can be said about vampires and werewolves. Sure you can RP as a minor vampire barely stronger then a human or a werewolf pup, but most often that is not the case and it is not anyone's right to tell YOU what you can RP as, but they can certainly choose NOT to RP with you.

    That's my 2 septims anyways!

I don't RP anymore but godmode was the biggest reason. Go to hunt a werewolf and make it a point to be upwind in the RP? Nope they smelled you. Argue that dude noses don't work that was as I was upwind. Go to pickpocket in an crowded tavern, nope they heard you. Point out that we are in a tavern filled with noise that they somehow miraculously heard the one person being quiet, they make up some other excuse.
Basically, some let being a werewolf or vamp go to their heads that nothing bad can happen to them and that whatever a non-vamp/werewolf tries to do, they auto overpower. I take some of those guilds are saying nope because they had to deal with those types and well, a few bad apples.

Others like if they are doing an Order of Stendarr gig, well, ya, Stendarr don't like them peeps.

@Argruna That's why most roleplay guilds require rolls. We use random-based dice roll addons and websites so that it's all by chance, not a guaranteed overpowerful character.

The Vampire one I guess is an appearance issue being all pale with freaky eyes, but the werewolves can just not use their transformation while in a group setting, or is there more to it?
from a purely in-character perspective, vampires and werewolves are considered abominations, and most law-abiding groups (and even groups who just don't want to take the risk) would steer clear of those types of individuals.

from an out-of-character viewpoint, on the other hand, vampires in particular are known for being...a bit more powerful than they should be. because, well, lore-wise, they're immortal and so they have literally all the time in the world to become badasses capable of wiping entire militias.

also, supernatural character traits are associated with characters who are otherwise very bland--in other words, if you take away the fact that John Smith is a vampire, what else is he? who is he? I'm not saying all characters are like this, but often the supernatural aspect is added either as a major and fundamental part of the character in question (thus pushing all other character traits into the background), or when the creator has little else to add in, but still wants the character to seem fleshed-out and well rounded.

I've also known beginning RPers to jump straight to vampires and werewolves because they're cool, and then get bent out of shape when this has IC (in-character) consequences in the form of other characters disliking theirs. because, well, they're an abomination--people aren't supposed to like them.

tl;dr: it takes a lot of skill to work properly within the setting of Elder Scrolls as a vampire or werewolf, and often many guilds (one of mine included) will either deny supernatural characters outright, or be extra wary of them due to their reputation. this is simply because people don't often do it right. it's fine to be an OP badass by yourself, but in a guild environment, everyone needs to shine, not just you. (general “you,” not you specifically, OP / reader.)

it should be noted that neither I nor any of my guilds have any OOC (out of character) dislike for the players of supernatural characters or even the characters themselves. as someone who plays a werewolf, I'm no purist. It's just a precaution that many guilds and guild leaders have come to take in some cases, and in others, it makes sense for it to be a genuine IC requirement. I hope this clears things up a little.
