The new gtx1070 is out this Friday. Seriiously tempted to get it - better than a 980ti and Titan yet abou £200 cheaper. Anyone else planning on investing in the 1070 or 1080?

I may sell my 980 and get a 1080, only because the 980 still sells for a decent price. I've heard some people being really impressed with the 1080 performance.
My only question is which version should I get. I always go for the Gigabyte Windforce, but not sure if I should do the same this time.

I just upgraded to the 1080 and a new system

    Ultra High settings

134fps (79-89 in Wrothgar/Rwkwaa area in reapers march) unsure why most likly coding issue
CPU Temp 18 degrees and 23 degrees under load
GPU Temp with new THermal Cooler Chamber 25 degrees normal and 43 degees under Load

so far very happy with 1080

I have a EVGA GTX 1080 coming tomorrow, can't wait!
I hope it will fix some of the slideshow I get in Cyrodiil (i know it's also due to bad optimization), but i'm hoping raw horsepower will trump it, if anything.
    Sometimes, I dream about...cheese...

Waiting for 1090ti or something of the like. I'm "due" for an upgrade, but since ESO is all I play and I run it at 60FPS everywhere (save for a few times in Cyrodiil) I'll be waiting a bit.

I'm waiting for bench tests to see if they fixed their Async problem. if they didn't, I'll be buying an AMD.

I have two GTX 1080s in SLI and they can't even max ESO at 4K due to bad optimisation. I can get 60+ FPS constantly in Doom, Tomb Raider, pretty much anything (until the cards throttle anyway).

But ESO? During vSO HM last night I was getting a whopping eight FPS and my average for the entirety of vSO was below 20 FPS and this is with two of the most powerful graphics cards in existence.

The 1070 and 1080 are good cards (if you get customs, reference blower blows) especially if you have a 7xx card or lower.

If you plan to game at 1080p, either of these cards are overkill unless you have a 144Hz monitor, but they are definitely worth getting if you want to upgrade.

Refresh rate doesn't affect the in-game FPS. With 60Hz monitor you just won't be able to see more than 60 FPS on your screen or you may get screen tearing in some cases.

Keep in mind that 1080 being so new, the graphic drivers are not yet fully optimized either.

However, for ESO in most cases, the CPU's processing power is the main FPS boost, followed by HDD/SDD and RAM. I can run the game on Ultra@1080p with an ease using 970m (which is a laptop GPU) and still get over 70-80 FPS in most places and dungeons. Now when I go to Cyrodiil for an example, the FPS drops considerably and not because of the amount of graphics my GPU has to render, but because of the poor optimization of calculating people's paths, trajectories and the mechanics involved in general. That's mainly a CPU issue. It's easy to test what's your main bottleneck, just Google some monitoring tools.

I'm not living a stationary life currently, so I am unable to test out a desktop rig with the new 1080, but from what I've heard from friends, it's a bit waste of money, considering how much cheaper the 1070 is and 99.9% of the time it will not be the GPU that bottlenecks you, whether it is 1070 or 1080.

TL;DR I'd get the 1070 and upgrade to a more advanced edition of 1080 in the future when it's actually needed. If you want to stream or record, just get a dedicated streaming card instead of splurging money for 1080 or even worse, SLI, which is so hindered by the beta drivers that it's just worthless when you take a look at the benchmarks.

How is the performance in large keep battles in Cyrodiil at max settings 1080p?

Also, to give an idea of how crappy ESO is to test or evaluate any hardware then; Even when you are using the world's fastest consumer grade SSD + ultra-low latency DDR4 (the new 950 Pro with up to 2.2Gb/s speeds and HyperX 2400hz CL13) as I am currently in my laptop, you will still not be able to load zones quicker than with for an example Evo 850 and you can still experience weirdly looooong loading times in Cyrodiil for example.

My president being a $*@! has made my country's exchange rate literally plummet so far that everything is twice as expensive as it use to be.

So while I NEED to upgrade, I can't right now.

At least not if I were to buy it locally so I am not going to buy it at all and just enjoy the fact that I will be playing without shadows or clouds or high res textures for a while (probably until I really can't stand it anymore and I want to look at a beautiful game again ) lmao
