Hardcore hardcore PvE DPS? Stam DK imo. Lots of Dots to stack and with the changes to Poison damage even better, nice Ults, nice passives. CPs work well with it (thauma + mighty).

Sorcs still good for PvE, exactly the same thing as last time (min/maxing, force pulse spam, frags, overload, etc) but survivability is different now. Not bad, just takes getting used to.

Stam DK with Maelstrom weapons for sustained, Mag Templars for burst and execute, Mag Nightblades for general utility. A token Sorc for minor prophecy in trial is all sorcs are relegated to these day.

For PvE, Sorcerer didn't get "useless". That's prejudgement of those who don't know to play a Sorcerer.

We, Sorcerers, although a very few skillful players can pull impressive numbers to show off, in general, never had competitive DPS to the other classes. The Thieves Guild DLC patch changed that a bit, but since it affected all magicka users we just became stronger than we used to be before, allowing us to go through end game content in a less painfully way. But we're still not as strong as other classes.

Of course, without huge shields up all the time you have to be doubly careful but it still playable. I risk to say that magicka Sorcerers are better now because by taking out our shields we could respect the Bastion CPs to get more resistant, be it splitting 50/50 into Hardy/Elemental Defender or 33/33/33 (ish) if including Spell Shield on the list too.

With this and the flat healing of Power Surge that now scales off Spell Critical (65% if full divines, instead the old and puny 40% if I'm not wrong), although a lot of people said it was an awful change, in fact, at least for me, helped a lot, specially in places like Maw of Lorkhaj and Sanctum Ophidia, being the latter a disgraced place for me since that lot of poison always killed me several times.

Hm... By "powerful", I'm assuming you mean damage-wise. The best damage dealing class would be either Dragonknight or Nightblade. Consistency or burst. Take your pick, as both of them excel in dealing high amounts of damage in a PVE environment (as well in PVP too).

I disagree. With 20-30k single target dps, sorcs were always amongst the top damage classes in PVE and still are. My sorc didn't loose any damage with the latest patch.

Yes, permashielding is if no impossible then at least more difficult than before, and there were a lot of sorc-players who put all their CPs into their shielding powers so that little remained for damage. But if that's your chosen playstyle, you can't complain about low DPS. Everything else is about the build, skill and rotation.

For trial :

First : Stam DK for PvE DPS but not the easiest to do DPS (you need to master the rotation)

Second : Magicka Templar easiest to do strong DPS, have great utility skills for group, sometimes difficult to sustain in trial

Third : Magicka nightblade, very close with MagPlar for DPS and utility (lot of HPS with the DPS) and has better sustain, but MagPlar has a better finisher

Magicka Dk : usefull in raid


For dungeon :

First : Magicka sorcrer : spam utli with dots

Second: Stam DK for PvE DPS but not the easiest to do DPS (you need to master the rotation)

Third : Magicka Templar easiest to do strong DPS, have great utility for group

Fourth : Magicka nightblade, very close with MagPlar for DPS and utility (lot of HPS with the DPS) and has better sustain, but MagPlar has a better exe' skill

Fourth : StamSorc, Magicka DK, Stam NB, Stamplar



DPS + utility skills are the best way to go ! Outnumbered gameplay without synergy or without group play mechanics... well... well 8)

In other words OP even though with every patch a new "meta" comes out it does not directly make other classes bad.

I could prob 1v1 the average pvper on most of the top 7 classes I mentioned and win.
I am not going to hold my breath with Mag Sorc but that's because I never paid enough attention to actually LEARN the class. They are a diamond in disguise but there is a very significant learning curve for PvP... One I never think I will give proper attention to.

You know, it's interesting.. I have both a magicka and stamina Dragonknight, but find I pull much higher numbers (overall) on the magicka one. Perhaps it's because I'm more comfortable with magicka builds than stamina builds, and understand them a bit more. Plus I have more experience with Mage-esque classes in MMO's, so I think that experience factors into it as well.

Very subjective question... Depends on how you define powerful I guess.

Stamnina DK and Stamina Templar are in a good place for putting up big damage numbers, but I don't think they are very good for much else, and they are in Melee range. Which if you have run trials lately the "Melee Zone" is getting crowded.

My favorite has been Magicka Nightblade for a long time right now. Not because I am getting the best damage numbers, but because I can get good damage numbers while putting out a lot of healing and do it from a range, which to me is a lot more powerful than straight DPS.

The only thing significant that changed in regards to sorc DPS is there are now fights long enough that you can't just overload the boss down. That's how they went from FOTM to least desirable in a single patch. Their sustainable single target was always a bit weak. Overload is still stupid OP in anything but vMoL or vSO.
