@ZOS: Why must you know all 9 traits to craft one specific trait? [example: Eternal Hunt]

Just wondering what is the reasoning behind this decision? It is limiting everyone who hasn't bothered with mass trait learning and everyone who would just like to enjoy the game. It's not even a good set, I just wanted to use it to do some role-playing with it while playing Thieves Guild. I guess I can forget about that now.

I've learnt all traits in all crafts except nirnhoned, because I never felt like I need it. And I freaking don't. And because of that I can't craft the set? Why? Why wouldn't I be able to craft the set in any other trait? Do you even know how long would it take for a newcomer to get there? To learn ALL 9 traits? To earn enough money to buy the nirnhoned stuff? Just so he/she could - at the end - craft the set? Why are you limiting the solo players from that aspect?

Will you continue this in the future? And why would you? I don't get it. Haven't you always claimed that you want to support player's freedom to choose? Because that's not it.
Why not - at the very least - make it for 8 traits? There a lot more people with 8 traits and with 9. A lot more. It's ridiculous.

So now if I want to do some role-playing and if I want to craft the set for the required gear (medium hat, shoulders, chest, gloves, boots, leggings, belt, sword, staff), I need to wait for almost two to three months. Just because I never gave a damn about one worthless trait. And if you disregard that I'm an older player and have been a subscriber since launch day, imagine the new players. Researching all 9 traits for their gear? It's literally going to take YEARS.

E: It's the same with Dark Brotherhood sets. Oh my god...

Join an active guild and ask a crafter there or simply ask in map chat, don't be shy - try to communicate with others player. The complaint itself is meaningless imo. It's just a kind of in-game progression.

Wow bro. Y u mad tho?

You can train 3 pieces at once. Shortest time for the 9th trait is 27 training days. It will take you two months to learn 5 armor pieces and craft your set.

Alternatively, just ask someone to make it for you.....duh!

@Aeladiir the sets work based on how many traits you know or your "knowledge" of the pieces as I'm sure you know you can research any three traits for a three trait set but you're limited to those traits. So sets just need complete knowledge.

Because crafting has meaning and progression. You've had plenty of time time to research 9 traits and chose not to. If you want the set, pay a crafter that did invest the time.

You can craft very good endgame sets with 6 traits. So in a month or two after starting the game you can craft yourself an endgame set. You don't have to grind for these sets, for mats, for max level, it all comes very fast. Now even faster with vet rank removal. I don't see any reason to complain, really.

It's not about endgame. It's about RP. I would never use this set while end game PvE-ing. I just hate it's limiting me to such a degree. As I said, I don't even consider this a good set [for my build] and it requires 9 traits. It's silly.

I know, I know, I'm obviously a bit overreacting, but I find this to be like something that force-feeds you the incentive to play, when the incentive itself should and *IS* coming from the game's actual content, which is actually relevant. Also, as a long-time paying consumer I'm not really happy when a game limits the way I want to play.

EDIT for question above: I RP every story content and some sets' bonuses provide enhanced experience as would be the case here. Sadly, I had to make do with Night's silence.

My plan was to make us of three seperate sets to create a thief of my own liking. Two of those, the one from OP and Morkuldin, were locked because of 9 traits. Sadly, this slowed me down for several months (and no, I won't beg my guildies for free stuff).

Oh well, it gives us (those who research traits) a sense of accomplishing something, when we finally learn traits needed for nice sets, or learn a new style. I personally look forward to placing another item on research, though now I can do it only once in a week or two. And I often look for style chapters in guildstores when I have gold. It's another way to enjoy the game. Something like fishing achievements, but more useful. If you don't enjoy it, just buy the mats and ask someone to craft these sets for you.

If you want to be a master crafter capable of creating anything you want, you need to work for it. Simple as that. It's only fair that people who invested a lot of time and gold into mastering this aspect of the game can do things nobody else can. Zenimax was nice enough to put some of the best sets at up to 6 traits, not all 9, so newer players can craft decent gear quickly enough. However, more ambitious crafters also have something to reward them for their efforts. It's good design.

The only thing you need to do to acquire nirnhoned items for research is walk to the nearest guild trader and buy them. You aren't even directly interacting with another person. How is this limiting solo players in any way?

No complaints against the crafting system. I love it. It's the fact that mediocre sets require 9 traits to be crafted.

It'd be nice to see a post from ZOS about how they decided which set needs how many traits, but now we can only guess.

That's not how your opening post came across. You were clearly complaining about 9 trait requirements in general.

Out of curiosity, how do you use Eternal Hunt in your RP scenario?

You are complaining because you never bothered to research that last trait...? Even if there are more 9-trait sets you may wish to use?

I'd say you cannot really blame ZOS for this.

I never crafted any gear in ESO(or for that matter any MMORPG, or even any RPG as I don't really like crafting investments) but I have all 9-trait crafted gear in the game. Yes, also the new Pelinal's Aptitude as well.
As long as you can get the mats(farm or just buy them) and are decently sociable, you should be able to as well.

To make crafting worthwhile to spend time doing, and make crafted set items worth selling. So that only people who put a lot of time into crafting and research can make everything, and their services valuable. Next question?

I have a master crafter and I am currently researching my last 2 traits for weapons in blacksmithing, so on 6/9/16, I will be done with all research, YES, all trait research....as currently Clothier and woodworking are already done, and I did it slowly, so stop crying OP and start researching your traits..

you need to do it because this is a progression based game. the downside (or upside if your a vet MMO player like me) is that it also comes from the ES world, where flexibility reigns king. But it's still a progression model.

You don't expect to be able to wear end game gear at level 1 do you? In the same vein, you don't expect to be able to craft end game (for crafting that is) gear unless you've progressed your crafting to that point.

They're approach to this is twofold. level the craft, and unlock traits. simple as that. Now...I can see why it would be tough for players who want end game quality sets to have to grind to 9 traits. This is why they made a bunch of quality sets @ 6. But the 9 trait ones are there for those high end crafters to have something to shoot for. makes total sense to me.

It's unfortunate that your RP conflicts with this. I emphathize. I do think though, that it all boils down to them having to choose which sets are the "top" sets for crafting, and which aren't. And they chose to drop sets that people would use down to 6 based on progression instead of RP.

On the flips side...imagine how many people would be frustrated if they dropped a bunch of sets that aren't used much to 6, and kept the most popular sets at 9. guess they had to pick their poison. Personally, I'm glad they went with popular progression sets. I see the others as rewards for me getting my crafting to 9 traits. I'm happy with that.
