An idea for IC by Jules, Inigo, Gman

The changes to IC to allow capturable districts is a good step forward. However, the flags in districts are easier to claim than resource flags in Cyrodiil and the incentive just isn’t there for PVPers. PVP’ers want to kill each other, but there should also be some nudge in the right direction ie: objectives or incentives to get them to do this and to instill purpose. Receiving more tel var stones is not enough of an incentive. We need an incentive that gives a buff of some sort, such as continuous attack


Our suggestions for creating incentive to PVP in IC are as follows:
  1. Let us fight on buildings and temples. Each district should have three king of the hill flags in these kinds of areas. King of the Hill meaning the flags flip easily from color to color, and return to neutral after a set amount of time.
  2. Cut amount of mobs in IC Districts by half.
  3. IC leaderboard separate than Cyrodiil leaderboard, with AP gain as empirical value used to gauge rankings of players, same as Cyrodiil.
  4. Rewards at end of campaign are telvar stones and keys used to open vaults that have RNG chance at gold gear including gold willpower and agility. (add these to tier 1 of cyrodiil leaderboards as well) Add separate chests in safe areas that take these keys. Tier 1 of LB would get most keys, Tier 2 would get 2nd most, ect.
  5. Leaderboards would be bi-daily. This encourages spouts of high intensity PVP for a chance at keys and negates the need for long term investments like emperor.
  6. The more flags you hold, the better ap you gain you get- 5% per flag as long as it’s held. Once you claim 3rd flag of 1 district, 30 min counter starts before flags of that district will return to neutral unless the flags are contested.
  7. When the districts are empty and no one is pvping, they will be neutral. This will allow people to see when action is happening because flags visible on your map will be turning and will have to had turned within 30 minutes.
  8. Claiming an entire district (3 flags) should give continuous attack to those who are on the third flag when the district is claimed. 90% AP gain if your faction holds all flags in all districts. (But this would be extremely difficult and require a lot of coordination.)
  9. Flags need to be away from spawn areas. Players can always spawn at their two districts that align with their faction even if this district is not owned by their faction. (Nobles + Elven Gardens - DC, Arboriteum + Temple - AD, Memorial + Arena- EP) This gives the players of each faction a method of easily contesting their home districts.
  10. Ideally the districts would be capped at groups of 8 to promote small scale PVP and reduce the likelihood of large groups strongarming the entire districts, ruining active PVP and circumventing the system.
  11. Increase tel var usefulness by including coffers that give you chance at gold upgrade mats, pages of new motifs, and crafting style stones.
  12. Instanced IC for each campaign.

    i would much rather see a server or few dedicated to small scale pvp not fighting npcs and players.

    This is half of why ESO PVP will never be as good as it could be. The game attracted, rewarded and hence kept players who are motivated by miscellaneous number and buffs and from pvp.

    The game would have had much stronger pvp if it had been designed to attract and keep players who were more motivated by good fights, rather than players just as or more interested in gaming (contrived) systems.

    I don' mean this as a judgment of the video gaming values of OP, or others, compared to anyone else's values being lesser or greater - just different.

    Hell, ZOS hasn't felt the need to make PVP better in forever. Instead they have felt the need to make pvp systems/rewards/gear/leader boards/numbers/etc. such that players feel like they are beating some measurement of winning.

    You present some really interesting ideas @Jules. It's just so sad that ZOS isn't investing more thought and development into this. At minimum I hoped for 3-flag king of the hill in each district.

    I would also like to see a mobile version of this (oddball, smear the ***) where you gain points over time for holding an object (elder scroll probably) that people try to find and kill you for. You could carry this object anywhere in IC, sewers included.

    Some thoughts:

    IC needs to have separate campaigns and leaderboards from outer Cyrodiil.

    I like the idea of gold agi/will/end jewelry but I also think the set bonuses should be normalized so that they are not always BIS.

    Zergs should be punished heavily by slashing XP/TV/AP gains for group sizes greater than 4 or when an enemy is tagged by more than 4 players. This would at least encourage people to spread out to try to fill less populated districts and limit the ability to dominate by numbers alone.

    With that said, I am very much against capping the number of players who can zone into a district (aside from a total IC population cap). Zerging should be highly disincentivized but not impossible per se. This is an all-out war after all and not an arena match.

    Also, this object should put a special proxy det on you that explodes every 10s or so, harms only players (including the wielder!), and increases in damage for each person inside its radius. This would ensure that the wielder has appropriate vulnerability to being attacked and can't turtle with a zerg protecting them.

    Additionally, damage to the wielder should increase over time until it eventually one-shots you and the object respawns in one of the six districts (RNG chooses which district). This would ensure that it cannot be held indefinitely and cannot be easily traded/punted back and forth between allies.

    How crazy fun would that be? :D

    I don't think they'll give AP bonuses to IC because they won't want it to affect Cyro leaderboards because IC is a DLC.

    Everything is else is great, and many of these points myself and others have been saying for quite some time, but after seeing the "district capture" system, I've lost all faith that IC will ever have good PvP.

    I'm basically just trying to gear my characters at the moment, occasionally doing some 1vX or running with some people I used to run with in Decibel, but overall just waiting for Quakecon to see what ZOS' plan for PVP is, if there is one. If there isn't a major PvP update announced, I'm done.

    Cyrodiil is an ambitious concept, but performance, bugs, and balance have not been up to snuff. IC was not the PvP update we were promised, instead changed to cater to ZOS carebear PvEers.

    If there isn't competitive, instanced, non-PvE battlegrounds and/or Arenas announced, I will end my sub that I've kept since early access. I was excited about this game for PvP, and have supported this game in more ways than one because of that, and I've gotten nothing in return.

    If there are not concrete plans announced at Quakecon, I'm done and I won't look back. My patience is far past the breaking point, if i didn't love this game and it's potential, I'd be done already.

    I've always liked IC the best, for being a mix of PvE and small scale PvP. I'd really like to keep cyrodiil style AvA out of it, with all its inevitable zerging and lagging.
