Formulaic DLC story

Anyone else noticing a sort of fill in the blanks set up with the overarching story of the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood?

"Here is the once great organization of ____! They're being set upon by ____! Go find out information on the mysterious ____! What's that? They're ___!?!? Better go invade their compound!"

I mean the smaller moments are pretty great, the overarching plots feel very samey to me. I'm not completely through the DB questline yet, just reached the "go to the compound of evil group of this DLC" quest about as far in as it felt for the previous DLC. It just feels... Uninspired.

Thoughts?

That sounds pretty much like the TG and DB arches in Skyrim, tbh.

In Oblivion DB was sort of like that, but TG was more of an internally sound storyline.

I think it might be a byproduct of the Buy2Play transition. The stories have to be self contained and can't really impact the world as a whole. ZOS needs to craft the stories so a players can play them in any order they want. Sure, they're released in an order but they need exist in such a way that a player who plays Dark Brotherhood, Orsinium, then Thieves Guild won't be confused.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.
