How do you unlock an item from your inventory?

So I got an item off of the guild trade, but it is locked. I cannot use it for research, sell it, deconstruct it, or destroy it. I have tried different keys, and even checked the settings for a lock/unlock hotkey. I could not find a solution. Can someone tell me where I can unlock this item, and why it is locked to begin with. Thanks!

also lock/unlock only seems to work on items that you can use levelwise (that is your level or lower).

Right-click the item in your inventory. Then click "Unlock" in the drop-down menu.

thanks for the reply. I do not have unlock as an option . I sent in a ticket for the item on support. I tried disabling addons and restarted but with no luck. I guess my button to unlock is just missing, or the boots are cursed.

You need to have it in your char inventory

this might be the problem. it is required lvl 49, and I am lvl 42. I would have never made the purchase from the guild store had I known it would take up space, uselessly, for so much time. A nice feature to add might be that guild traded items are forced to unlock at the time of purchase.
