Crown Store Taking to Much Away From Collectors?

Zarbryn
Zarbryn
Ok, so I played some MMO's for a lot longer than a lot of my friends for one reason - I am a collector and a completionist. I am not against ZOS making money from cosmetic items in the crown store, however they seem to have removed all the collectables in-game.

This means that when I finish the main story I am having issues seeing why I would stick around - the reason I find these kind of games addictive. I spent ages near launch collecting all the crafting style books and now you can just buy them - so that is one less thing for me to collect that feels like it is worth the time. The warcraft store sells lots of mounts - and the best mounts - but there are still some for me to hunt in game. Its the reason I have played for so long. I enjoyed making clothes for my characters - something that would not be as affective if I just paid for costumes. This doesnt mean fancy or 'special' costumes should not be in the store (wedding dresses, uniforms etc), just not all of them (and the style books).

Unfortunately, once the main story is over, I dont see why I would keep playing. It just seems a shame, and I dont see why having a crown store should mean that none of these items are around in game. Have plain mounts to collect in game - and then have fancy ones (or the armour for them) available from the crown store? Or actually rare crafting styles in-game. There is no point making money from the store if players leave as they have nothing to do. That sense of achievement (however false) is so important to a good MMO.

What is around for me to 'collect' that I cannot just buy?

    Rare fish?
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Ok, maybe I didnt make some of my point clear here, having just read a few posts saying people wanted styles in-store because they were not game breaking and they didnt want to spend ages farming them.

But for me, getting styles and mounts is a key part of the game. Therefore, for me this is completely 'game-breaking'. If you really want your character to be able to wear something, you should put in the effort to get it. The same way I cannot just buy high-level gear from the crown store. Gear gets outdated, and so I would rather farm mounts and styles (obviously I get gear as well, but I normally spend more time on roleplay).

I actually wish this was still sub, and all these items were in-game.

I know by most peoples definition, selling motifs is not pay-to-win, but as farming these kind of things is so essential to my experience it is to me. The same way them selling high level gear would be to other people.

Its a roleplay thing. I like to earn my outfit, and not have everyone have access to the same ones right away. As with all games - you start in rags and shackles - and you progress.

Some of the most successful MMO's stay successful for this reason - people like to spend time customising their character, and people spend months/years farming the right item.

Quit playing some months ago because of this. I was having fun making the in game money to buy things things I wanted. Then all that was available to any fool with some money.

*** that, I ani't playing the game I played since before it came out and paying you *** for crap as well a slap in the face for caring.

Just spoke to someone the other day (whispered them in game) and the glowy blue-lines-on-black facepaint I was admiring was an in-game reward.

I think there is also a scamp and a costume from IC.

I think there is a dwemer spider from somewhere.

You probably already have the skeleton polymorph.

I have a sneaking hope that boosting the sub benefits will be increased, and that ZoS is hoping to indirectly make it a "most o the folks will WANT to sub to play" game.
