It's 2016, and by now I'm sure many of us have played many different games that had similar gameplay or farming to ESO. I've spent the majority of my time playing on console, where I've dumped thousands of hours into games like Warframe and Diablo 3, even older games like Runescape back in the day when I did play more PC. We all play ESO, and we all like ESO, even the ones who complain about it, (you wouldn't be writing rants if you didn't). Personally, I like farming, as repetitive as it is, and I like to be challenged in various ways while I do it, something that definitely came from countless hours grinding rifts farming for BiS sets on Diablo. I played Diablo 3 on multiple console platforms, and the game was tons of fun until it was suddenly completely destroyed. It wasn't bugs or bad mechanics that destroyed Diablo 3 on console, it was the community that exploited modded items. Yes you can try to avoid these kinds of exploiters but what happens when you don't even know who they are? Many people farmed 'legit' gear using modded items, or cleared higher rifts without achieving a paragon that was obviously fake and pretended not to. It's no different from people using client hacks to farm gear and obtain scores that they otherwise wouldn't be able to obtain. These people don't just make playing the game pointless for themselves, but they make real and competitive players lose interest in competing or farming.
Before even discussing what people believe the repercussions for this form of cheating is (which, unfortunately when I introduce my own bias would be in my mind permanent account bans), I want to ask the people who exploit, or cheat, or hack, what is the point? You are eliminating any incentive to continue playing for not only yourself but many others who feel slighted by watching you cheat for their hard earned accomplishments. Thankfully, the recent exploit is very obvious on leaderboards and in pvp so the culprits are clear, but as a community in eso or otherwise we need to become mature enough to not be actively looking to add toxicity to communities that we all enjoy being a part of.

Using someone else's program to cheat makes them feel good about themselves, as if it was their program and they were winning with skill.

So the answer: LOW SELF ESTEEM AND LOW SKILL.

People who cheat are bored. pure and simple.
They suck too much to get any kicks out of the game, yet they like it too much to quit.

So they resort to less morally correct ways of winning.
In the end, all they need is a quick pull on the leash, not so soft, but still hard enough to let them know what's up.

What about all the people who are affected by this? Those people who had their #1 scores erased? Or worse, those who won't get weekly vMA rewards even after getting a 398k score? Do you think they'll be happy with a moderate response?

More like that pvp was actually balanced quite well and the only way to 1vX is cheating. At least 1vX that makes for more twitch subscribers.

If ZOS can actually check these things you will find that 90% of the twitchers were using cheats in some way. All why insulting anyone that ever questioned their barrages of attacks while dodging everything thrown at them.
